Accused person, Armstrong Trust Nsingo of Wedza appeared before Zvishavane Magistrates Court facing a charge of stealing armoured electrical copper cables belonging to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA). Court heard that police officers, acting on a tip off, raided Nsingo’s residence around lunch hour. A search of the premises led to the recovery of several lengths of armoured copper cables and cable armour wire stashed under his bed. In total, the loot included four pieces of 10m x 7 x 2 core copper cable, an 18m x 2 core cable and 100 metres of armoured copper wire. Upon further interrogation, Nsingo failed to produce any licence or documentation authorising his possession of the electrical material, leading to his arrest. The case came to light on 13 June 2025, when a plumber repairing a drainage system unearthed the infant’s remains. In a statement shared on their official Twitter account, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that Siziba had given birth to a baby boy on 28 May 2025 and buried him to conceal the birth. Authorities have since opened an inquiry file, and police have urged members of the public with any relevant information to come forward. The incident has raised concerns about infanticide and concealed births, with law enforcement warning that such acts carry severe legal consequences.

For now, the fighting between Israel and Iran seems restricted to the two nations. At the United Nations and elsewhere there have been widespread calls for restraint. But what if they fall on deaf ears? What if the fighting escalates and expands? Here are just a few possible, worst-case scenarios. *America gets dragged in* For all the US denials, Iran clearly believes American forces endorsed and at least tacitly supported Israel’s attacks. Iran could strike US targets across the Middle East – such as special forces camps in Iraq, military bases in the Gulf, and diplomatic missions in the region. Iran’s proxy forces – Hamas and Hezbollah – may be much diminished but its supportive militias in Iraq remain armed and intact. The US feared such attacks were a possibility and withdrew some personnel. In its public messaging, the US has warned Iran firmly of the consequences of any attack on American targets. _*Continue reading here*_ https://thevoiceonlinenews.com/3d4n

According to recent media reports coming from across the Limpopo, Pirates are racing against European interest to sign Ndlovu, with his club demanding a record-breaking R15m. “Orlando Pirates lead the local charge, but they’re not alone. Zimbabwe’s brightest football talent has sparked a bidding war as Highlanders FC demand a jaw-dropping R15 million for teenage winger Prince Ndlovu… The move has sent shockwaves through South African football circles,” an SA publication wrote. Ndlovu, often referred to as the ‘next Peter Ndlovu’, has long attracted interest from top clubs, having previously trained with the Buccaneers in Houghton before a failed European stint. Now, with his stock soaring, Highlanders are playing hardball. “Highlanders FC value Prince (Ndlovu) and that’s why they are pricing him at around R15 million. The club believe it’s a fair price looking at his talent, quality and future ahead of him,” a club official said, as quoted by Soccer Laduma. *Highlanders play the long game as bids loom* The Bulawayo giants aren’t rushing to cash in. Their valuation isn’t just based on local interest, it’s also shaped by serious attention from abroad. “Apart from Orlando Pirates there is a European club that has been monitoring him for some time now. It’s Sturm Graz from the Austria Bundesliga,” a source revealed. This European connection could tip the scale and inflate the price further. A R15 million fee would rank among the highest for any player moving directly from the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. It’s a bold statement from Highlanders, and a sign of just how highly they rate the 19-year-old winger. Ndlovu was recently donning national colours at the COSAFA Cup in Bloemfontein, offering football scouts from across the continent a front-row seat to evaluate his explosive potential. Pirates are believed to have sent representatives to monitor him closely. – _*NewZimbabwe*_

The deals, sealed on the sidelines of the three-day mining and industrial expo, signal growing demand for local products and services, particularly in the mining and agricultural value chains. Speaking at the close of the event, ZimTrade export promotion officer Mr Renwick Wachenyuka said the multi-million-dollar agreements involved supplies to some of the DRC’s largest mining companies, including Gecamines, Kamoa Copper and MMG, all based in Kolwezi. “In terms of what has been concluded so far, the figures are likely to go up, but we have already achieved US$18 million worth of deals, which comprises supplies to big mines such as Gecamines, Kamoa Copper and MMC, which are based in Kolwezi,” said Mr Wachenyuka. “Just to give perspective on the size of the market, Kamoa Copper operates bore mills that process up to 1 500 tonnes of material per month. “If you look at the other mines, they are processing about 500 to 600 tonnes per month. “That means there is consistent and substantial demand for milling equipment.” Seven Zimbabwean companies — Charter Seeds, Megabreeze, Zambezi Gas and Coal Mines, GB Holdings, James P Dixon, Powerdrive Engineering and Boltgas International — exhibited at the regional expo. The firms showcased a range of products and services, from mining consumables and engineering components to agricultural inputs, targeting DRC’s booming resource extraction sector. Mr Wachenyuka said the success at this year’s edition highlighted both the quality and competitiveness of Zimbabwean goods. He underscored the need for local firms to improve on production capacity, delivery timelines and establishment of local distribution channels in the DRC. “So, in terms of what is going to be achieved, it will depend very much on our capacity as a country to produce the quality that is required, and also the delivery times that are required by them, because these products are required urgently in this market,” he added. “We are most likely going to engage other potential suppliers from Zimbabwe, because obviously the seven companies that we have got here cannot satisfy the market demand. “So, we will be engaging other companies as well, which manufacture these products, to take up the offer.” He added that firms must consider setting up distribution points in the DRC to ensure consistent supply, efficient after-sales support and stock availability, which are critical for maintaining long-term relationships with clients in the region. “One thing that I must mention is that it is very important that these companies establish distributorships in this market to ensure that there is consistent supply, good after-sales service and also for logistical purposes, to have sort of a way out where they can then keep consignment stock to reduce the time period in the market,” he said. The DRC Mining Week is a premier platform for stakeholders in the mining, energy, construction and agriculture sectors. “It brings together government officials; major mining firms; industrial suppliers; financial institutions; and regional and international investors, offering a critical opportunity for networking, deal-making and partnership development. – _*ZimPapers*_

Makepekepe’s last won 2-1 against Chicken Inn FC in 2018. Despite creating more chances in the game, Chicken Inn failed to convert four clear chances, which could have buried Makepekepe. However, Benyu’s 64th minute header separated the two sides and gave Makepekepe the much needed three points. Other than ending a winless run against Chicken Inn, Saturday’s win was the second for CAPS United coach Ian Bakala, who assumed office in May. “I give credit to the boys, because l think the winning mentality is coming. “We still have work to do, but the players now understand our working culture. So, we are going step-by-step, and l am happy,” said Bakala. CAPS United continue to climb out of the relegation zone as they are now on position 13 with 16 points. For Chicken Inn, Saturday’s defeat worsened the situation for team head coach Joey Antipas, whose job is on the line. Commenting following the defeat, Antipas rued missed chances. “All l can say is football is a crazy game, its cruel. It showed its cruelty today. If you look at the game, we dominated the game and created for clear chances but they (CAPS United ) created one.” Chicken Inn is now sitting on position 15 with 13 points, five ahead of bottom-placed Kwekwe United. *Saturday 14 June PSL Results* Bikita Minerals 1-1 Dynamos Ngezi Platinum Stars 1-1 Manica Diamonds Yadah 1-1 Herentals Greenfuel 0-1 Tel One FC Platinum 4-0 ZPC Kariba CAPS United 1-0 Chicken Inn.

*Government targets to train 7k health workers annually* https://thevoiceonlinenews.com/xzd9 ___________________________________ `June 15, 2025` ___________________________________ > *Follow The Voice Online News WhatsApp channel:* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaPRQqTHrDZdGRK5yH43 ___________________________________ > *Share The Voice Online News WhatsApp group link:* https://chat.whatsapp.com/DjU5F7Goh3M6M4XSkg81Gx ___________________________________ > *To advertise with The Voice Online News, talk to us here:* https://wa.me/message/PLR6ANGW2RX4I1 ___________________________________ GOVERNMENT is intensifying its efforts to achieve universal health coverage, aiming to increase service coverage from the current 55 to 80 percent by 2030. This was revealed by the deputy chairperson of the Health Services Commission, Dr Rugare Abigail Kangwende during a recent visit to Manicaland, during which she reaffirmed Government’s commitment of ensuring that every citizen has access to quality and affordable healthcare. “Universal health coverage entails that all citizens, regardless of their location, should have access to essential health services when needed, at a quality they deserve, and at an affordable cost. Our goal is to significantly increase universal health coverage,” said Dr Kangwende. Dr Kangwende emphasised the crucial role of the Health Workforce Compact in driving this transformation. It provides a framework for investments and collaborations to address healthcare workforce challenges, ultimately aiming to improve health outcomes. Its primary focus is on developing a resilient, motivated, and skilled health workforce to achieve universal health coverage, and enhance the overall health of the population. Dr Kangwende said the compact aims to accelerate the country’s aspiration of attaining a universal health coverage to at least 80 index points, and ensure the availability of a resilient, motivated, and fit-for-purpose health workforce. “The Health Workforce Compact is a pivotal intervention in achieving our mandate. This compact is an agreement between the Ministry of Health and Child Care and various other ministries and partners, aiming to reach the universal health coverage target of 80 percent by 2030,” she said. The HWC was signed by the different partners last year. The initiative stems from a comprehensive Health Labour Market Analysis conducted a few years ago, which revealed a severe shortage of health workers in the country. “The study assessed Zimbabwe’s disease burden, population needs, and workforce requirements to determine the necessary steps towards achieving Universal Health Coverage. Currently, Zimbabwe’s health coverage stands at approximately 55 percent, directly linked to the number of health workers available per 10 000 people,” she said. However, Dr Kangwende noted that the current workforce is less than half of what is required to meet the standard, and to bridge this gap, Government aims to double the number of health professionals by 2030 through intensified training and recruitment efforts. The plan involves scaling up training across all critical disciplines, including nursing, laboratory sciences, environmental health, pharmacy, and medicine. Currently, Zimbabwe produces about 2 500 health workers annually, but this figure needs to nearly triple to meet the target of 7 000. “To achieve this ambitious goal, we plan to significantly expand the training of health professionals, increasing annual output from 2 500 to 7 000 workers across various medical disciplines,” explained Dr Kangwende. By increasing training output in all fields, the country aims to raise its Universal Health Coverage. Beyond training, Government is addressing existing vacancies in the health sector, particularly in clinical roles. Many funded positions remain unfilled, further straining the system. The migration of skilled workers abroad and to the private sector has exacerbated shortages. To counter this, Dr Kangwende said Government is implementing measures to improve working conditions, including competitive salaries and non-monetary incentives. “We aim to retain health workers by meeting their needs, ensuring they are well-compensated, motivated, and supported, so they do not seek opportunities elsewhere. The Government is committed to progressively meet the wage demands of health workers by 2030. “Treasury has also signed onto the Health Workforce Compact, demonstrating a shared commitment among all partners,” said Dr Kangwende. Dr Kangwende highlighted job creation as a critical aspect of the strategy, with plans to establish 32 000 new posts to absorb the additional trained professionals. “This expansion will provide employment opportunities for graduates, while strengthening the nation’s healthcare delivery system. We are committed to creating these posts, enabling the health workers we train to effectively serve the people of Zimbabwe,” she said, while emphasising the importance of embracing technology to modernise health services. “Our vision is to establish a world-class health system that aligns with national aspirations to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030. Digitalisation will play a pivotal role in streamlining processes, such as e-recruitment and online interviews, making service delivery more efficient,” she said, adding that the scale-up plan will include all health workers, encompassing environmental health workers, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, nurses, and doctors. – _*ZimPapers*_

This followed a suspected poisoning incident allegedly orchestrated by a faction of the club’s supporters from Tongogara Refugee Settlement who were reportedly dissatisfied with his team selection decisions. Contacted for a comment, Tongogara United FC patron, Johane Mhlanga, who is also the refugee settlement administrator, said: “I can confirm that Tongogara United Football Club veteran gaffer, Valentine Takaendesa Mukwashi who was under the cold for a week is back on duty. The club and its legion of supporters are excited that the coach is back rejuvenated and raring to go. His return is a morale booster to the players ahead of their encounter against Manica Diamonds Under-19 FC in Mutare. As the Settlement administration, we are excited that the coach is back to guide the team against Manica Diamonds on Friday, and FC Mazodze on June 18, 2025. These matches are critical for TUFC in our efforts to consolidate our quest for Premier League promotion.” Last year, Tongogara United FC achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first-ever refugee team to qualify for the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League Division One. Tongogara FC is a unique club, comprising mainly refugees from various conflict-ridden countries residing at Tongogara Refugee Settlement in Chipinge South Constituency, as well as some local players from the surrounding rural host communities. As with many clubs featuring players from diverse backgrounds, team selection has been a contentious issue within the refugee settlement. Allegations have surfaced regarding perceived favouritism towards players from specific countries over others. Mukwashi corroborated reports of his ordeal, confirming that he had vomited for over 12 hours, and received medical attention at three centres during his recovery. “I was vomiting from 3am until 4.30pm on Sunday. I went to the local clinic, and was referred to Chipinge District Hospital, where I was admitted. I was later transferred to Triangle Hospital and discharged last Friday. Thankfully, I am now fit, and will be resuming work this week,” said Mukwashi. However, the Tongogara FC coach emphasised that he would remain impartial in his team selection, undeterred by the malicious tactics employed off the field. “I am fair, and my selections are based on performance. If someone excels during training, they will likely play well on Saturday or Sunday. Even if I am poisoned 40 times – if that is what happened – I will remain fair. “I won’t change my approach. Perhaps, I might leave after the first half of the season, but for now, I will persevere. No one can dictate what I do; I won’t be swayed by external pressures,” he said. Tongogara United FC’s existence is a testament to the club’s inclusive approach, which aligns with its mission to promote social cohesion and local integration. The club’s composition – featuring both refugees and locals – embodies this vision. It also includes members from the host communities. By bringing together refugees and host community members, the club fosters mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration, helping to bridge cultural divides and create a more unified environment within the Tongogara Refugee Settlement Meanwhile, the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League’s MatchDay Seven has brought some exciting developments. FC Hunters are currently leading with 19 points, just one point ahead of Tenax CS FC, who have played one match less. What is impressive is FC Hunters’ attacking prowess, having scored 29 goals with a goal difference of plus 19. The unbeaten teams in the league so far include FC Hunters, Tenax CSFC, Rusitu Tigers, and Masvingo United. Notably, Rusitu Tigers and Masvingo United have the best defensive record, with neither team conceding a goal yet. On the other end of the spectrum, teams like Manica Diamonds Under-19, Chivhu FC, and Great Zimbabwe are struggling to record their first win. Unfortunately, Chivhu FC and Manica Diamonds have the worst defensive record, having conceded 15 goals each. – _*ManicaPost*_

This significant achievement represents a substantial increase in both farmer participation and total sales value compared to the previous year. According to the latest statistics from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), on Day 66 of the 2025 tobacco marketing season, farmers had sold 280 889 452kg of the golden leaf. The sales have generated a total value of US$944 million. In an interview, TIMB spokesperson Mrs Chelesani Moyo-Tsarwe expressed satisfaction with the season’s performance. “Farmer participation this season has been encouraging,” she said. “Out of the 134 996 registered growers so far, 81 percent of them are active growers, who have delivered tobacco to various selling points.” This, she said, translates to 108 878 active growers to date, marking a 4,6 percent increase from the 104 104 active growers recorded during the 2024 season. “The amount of tobacco delivered represents a massive 93,63 percent towards our 300 million kg target of tobacco,” Mrs Moyo-Tsarwe said. The average price achieved so far this season is US$3,37 per kilogramme, a slight dip from last year’s US$3,47 per kg, but still providing fair returns. Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri said: “record-breaking has become part of the ministry’s DNA”. He attributed this remarkable success to a convergence of factors. Also, he highlighted the significant impact of favourable climatic conditions, with “good rainfall distribution and suitable temperatures during the growing season” underpinning healthy crop development in key regions. Crucial support systems, he said, including contract farming companies providing vital inputs, expert advice and financial backing, were instrumental in empowering farmers to enhance both yields and leaf quality. The surge in cultivated land, particularly by smallholder farmers who are recognising tobacco’s profitability, has been a major contributor. “Improved agronomic practices, including advanced curing methods, which have translated into higher yields and better market prices, have been a key contributor,” Prof Jiri said. The stable market, he said, competitive pricing and TIMB’s efficient marketing operations have further streamlined processes and encouraged timely deliveries. “The robust performance seen so far is a testament to the hard work and resilience of our tobacco farmers, the dedication of the support services and the conducive policy environment created by the Government,” he said. “We remain committed to ensuring the sustainability and growth of the tobacco sector, which is a vital contributor to our national economy and a source of livelihood for many Zimbabweans. We are confident that by the end of the marketing season, we will celebrate a truly record-breaking year for Zimbabwean tobacco.” Mr Ashton Munaki, a smallholder farmer from Guruve, said: “This season has been exceptional for us smallholder farmers. The support we have received with inputs, coupled with favourable rains, has made a huge difference to our yields. “The quick payments and the generally efficient selling process at the floors have truly motivated us to deliver more. We are confident we have managed to meet our individual targets and contribute significantly to this national record.” – _*ZimPapers*_
