Doha ➡️ Munich ➡️ New Delhi ➡️ Washington, DC ➡️ Amman ➡️ Cairo Over the past several months, the Middle East Consultation Group (MECG) has convened across continents to promote dialogue and explore pathways to peace and stability in the Middle East. For this, it is essential to consult with two key players known for their regional mediation and integration efforts: Jordan and Egypt. Last week, in Amman and Cairo, the MECG met with regional leaders and experts to deepen their understanding of: 🔹 Jordan’s and Egypt’s views on the ongoing crisis and diplomatic prospects 🔹 The role of public opinion in shaping decision-making 🔹 The evolving roles of regional powers amid geopolitical developments 🔹 The influence of external actors like the US, EU, China, and others We will issue a full report on the Middle East Consultation Group's insights later this year.

Behind every panel and policy debate is a dedicated team. Last week, our MSC team came together for a strategy retreat — aligning on goals, refining processes, and strengthening collaboration. These moments of reflection and planning are essential to advancing our mission: fostering dialogue in international security. See you in Munich next February for #MSC2026 (or maybe even a bit sooner at one of our other events). 👋

*This was #MSC2025.* We had a lot to discuss — from the most pressing global and regional security issues to European responsibilities and the changes in the transatlantic alliance. The Munich Security Conference is often described as the place to take the temperature of world politics and assess the state of the transatlantic partnership. In this year, the only question was: How bad is it? “The MSC has always been a place to raise uncomfortable matters. People don't just come here to celebrate common ground and share visions. For the last 60 years, people have come here to vent their anger, to express their concerns and to confront problems.” — Benedikt Franke, Vice-Chair and CEO Here are the main key takeaways from this year’s conference: 🔹 JD Vance’s first major foreign policy speech as 🇺🇸 Vice President shook the transatlantic partnership to its core. To many participants, this year’s transatlantic family reunion felt like a disunion. 🔹 The Trump administration’s policies may accelerate the world's “multipolarization.” Europeans are seeing an ever greater need to become an independent pole to secure their own destiny, while many in the Global South seem to be reeling from the end of the US-led order – and some are seeking to fill the void. 🔹 The beginning negotiations on a peace deal for Ukraine – and the overall fate of the country – will provide a glimpse into the emerging order, which increasingly appears to be shaped by great-power deals rather than by international law. 🔹 The defenders of an international order based on universal rules will have to forge new partnerships and increase their investments. But debates in Munich left unclear whether these actors are willing and able to do so. Read our Debrief “Westlessness Reloaded? Key Takeaways From the Munich Security Conference 2025” for more information: https://securityconference.org/en/publications/debriefs/westlessness-reloaded/

At the closing of MSC 2025, Jens Stoltenberg thanked the MSC Foundation Council for their trust in nominating him as our future Chair. "I really look forward to take my position. The MSC has always been important, but in times of turmoil and change, it is even more crucial." While Jens Stoltenberg will serve as Norway’s Minister of Finance, our two current Vice-Chairs, Benedikt Franke and Rainer Rudolph, will take the interim-lead for the MSC until he returns from public office. We’re looking forward to the next chapter!

📝 *Three key takeaway’s from President Zelenskyy’s speech on our Main Stage this morning:* 1. Zelenskyy discloses that Ukraine has clear intel on Russia sending troops to Belarus this summer. 2. He sends a clear message to European citizens: “Some in Europe might be frustrated with Brussels, but let's be clear: If not Brussels, then Moscow. It's your decision. Moscow will pull Europe apart if we, as Europeans, don't trust each other.” 3. 🇺🇦’s President on further European integration: “Many leaders have talked about Europe needing its own military — an army of Europe. I really believe that the time has come, and that the armed forces of Europe must be created!”
