"Even if the ages were to stretch long and the lifetimes were to be prolonged, my certainty in you would only increase, my love for you would only grow, my reliance and dependence upon you would only deepen, my anticipation for your appearance would only intensify, and my readiness to strive in your presence would only become more urgent. So I offer myself, my wealth, my children, my family, and everything my Lord has granted me— to be at your service, acting in accordance with your command and your prohibition, O my Master. If I am granted to witness your radiant days and your shining signs, then here I am—your servant—ready to carry out your orders and abstain from what you forbid, hoping thereby to attain martyrdom in your presence and success under your leadership. But, O my Master, if death overtakes me before your appearance, then I seek nearness to Allah through you and your pure forefathers, and I ask Him to send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and to grant me a return (Karrah) during your advent— a Return (Raj’a) in your days— so that I may reach the fulfillment of my devotion to you, and so that my heart may find healing through the defeat of your enemies.”

“Abu Hamza said: Abu Ja‘far al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said to me: O Abu Hamza, one of you travels for leagues and seeks a guide for himself, yet you are more ignorant of the paths of the heavens than you are of the paths of the earth — so seek a guide for yourself.”

From the Oppression of Imam Ali, a segment from his sermon which we gave to a few of his elite Shi’a: “Indeed, the rulers before me committed acts that opposed the Messenger of Allah, to deliberately to oppose him, breaking his covenant and altering his Sunnah. If I were to compel the people to abandon those practices and restore things to their original places—as they were during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family)—my army would scatter from me until I would be left alone or with only a few of my Shi’a who recognize my virtue and the obligation of my leadership from the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon him and his family).” “Do you not see—if I had commanded that the Station of Ibrahim be returned to the place where the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) had positioned it... if I had returned Fadak to the heirs of Fatima (peace be upon her)... if I had restored the Prophet’s measure (Sā‘) as it was... and upheld the land grants that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) gave to individuals which were later canceled and not enforced... if I had returned the house of Ja‘far to his heirs and removed it from the mosque’s expansion... if I had reversed unjust judgments that had been made... if I had separated women from men they were unlawfully married to and returned them to their rightful husbands, reintroducing rulings regarding private parts and wombs……. By Allah, I commanded the people not to gather in the month of Ramadan except for the obligatory prayers, and I informed them that gathering for optional (nafil) prayers during this month is a bid‘ah (innovation). Then some of those in my army—those fighting alongside me—began calling out: ‘O people of Islam! He is changing the Sunnah of Umar! He forbids us from praying voluntary prayers in Ramadan?!’ I feared that they might rise up in part of my army’s camp. What hardship have I faced from this nation's division, and from their obedience to the leaders of misguidance and the callers to the Fire.”

From Abu Ja‘far (peace be upon him), he said: “It is as if I see the companions of the Qa’im (peace be upon him) having encompassed what lies between the East and the West. There is nothing except that it obeys them — even the beasts of the land and the birds of the sky seek their pleasure in all matters. Even the earth will boast to another piece of land, saying: ‘Today, a man from the companions of the Qa’im (peace be upon him) passed over me.’”

From The Messenger of Allah (prayers of Allah be upon him and his household) is exhortations to Abu Dhar: “O Abu Dharr, a man does not attain full understanding [of religion] until he sees all people, in comparison to Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, as like camels (insignificant), and then turns back to himself and sees himself as the most insignificant of them.” “O Abu Dharr, you will not attain the reality of faith until you see all people as fools in their religion and intelligent in their worldly affairs.” “O Abu Dharr, take account of yourself before you are taken to account, for that will make your reckoning tomorrow easier. Weigh yourself before you are weighed, and prepare for the Great Presentation — the Day when nothing about you will be hidden from Allah” يا أبا ذر لا يفقه الرجل كل الفقه حتى يرى الناس في جنب الله تبارك و تعالى أمثال الأباعر (٢) ثم يرجع إلى نفسه، فيكون هو أحقر حاقر لها.

From Jabir, [he said:] Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah has removed fear from the hearts of our enemies and placed it into the hearts of our Shia. But when our matter (The Advent) comes, He will remove the fear from the hearts of our Shia and place it into the hearts of our enemies. At that time, each one of them (the Shia) will be sharper than a spearhead and bolder than a lion — he will strike his enemy with his spear, hit him with his sword, and trample him under his foot.”

From Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaydah who said: Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) said to me, “O Muhammad, are you (the Shia) more given to Taqlid, or are the Murji’ah (Sunnis)?” I replied, “We perform Taqlid and they perform Taqlid.” He said, “That is not what I asked you.” I had no better answer than my first, so Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) said: “The Murji’ah appointed a man whose obedience was not made obligatory, and they performed Taqlid of him. But you appointed a man whose obedience was made obligatory, then you did not perform Taqlid of him — so their Taqlid is stronger than yours.”

“From Khallad ibn al-Saffar, he said: ‘Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him) was asked: Has the Qa’im been born?’ He replied: ‘No, and if I were to live to see him, I would serve him for the rest of my life.’” [Al-Ghayba] Imam Ali said to the Prophet prayers of Allah be upon them and their holy household: “O Messenger of Allah, I am content that my soul be a sacrifice for your soul, and my self a ransom for your self. Rather, I am content that my soul and self be a ransom even for a brother of yours, or a relative, or for some of the animals you care for. Do I love life for any reason other than to serve you, to act according to your commands and prohibitions, to love your allies, to support your chosen ones, and to struggle against your enemies? If not for that, I would not wish to live in this world for even a single moment.”

“From Zurārah, from Abū Ja‘far (peace be upon him), who said: The peak of the matter, its pinnacle, its key, the door to all things, and the pleasure of the Most Merciful—may He be glorified and exalted—is obedience to the Imam after having Ma’rifa of him.”

From the Holy Prophet (prayers of Allah be upon him and his household): “Whoever devotes himself sincerely to Allah for forty days, Allah will cause the springs of wisdom to flow from his heart to his tongue” [Bihar Al-Anwar].
