Join us as LIAS Fellow Katherine Gibson will present her co-produced film “The Bamboo Bridge” in our next LIAS Film Series, Wednesday, June 4th, 7.30 pm at SCALA Cinema. The documentary film challenges us “to shift into an unfamiliar mode of thinking”, as director Juan Francisco Salazar states. The bamboo bridge was a ephemeral infrastructure: it was built up every year during dry season and taken down as monsoon season began. For decades, local bridge builders connected the island of Koh Paen with the city of Kampong Cham in Cambodia this way. The documentary follows the last build of the bridge in 2017, as a concrete bridge is erected and portrays three generations of bridge builders. LIAS Fellows Paula Bertúa and Bruno Moreschi invite you to join us for the Symposium „Performativity, Memory and Imagination of Technical Images“ comingWednesday! Expect a Panel Discussion and presentations by expert guests and a lecture, before the screening of Bruno‘s experimental film „Acapulco“. For the Lecture „Technical Images as Tower of Babel: Six Memos“, Laura González Flores (National Autonomous University of Mexico) will take the oil Painting Tower of Babel (1563) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder as an allegory for technical images to reflect on todays notions of AI Imagery.
