Masvingo to Commemorate World AIDS Day in Bikita on June 20 18 June 2025. *By Tafara Pande* Masvingo - The National AIDS Council (NAC) Masvingo Province will host this year’s World AIDS Day commemorations on June 20 at Gwindingwi High School grounds in Bikita District, under the theme “Take the Rights Path: My Health, My Right, Our Responsibility.” The commemorations will kick off with a marathon race from Nyika Growth Point to the venue, featuring 5km, 10km, and 21km races, all part of the council’s efforts to promote healthy living and community wellness. According to NAC Masvingo acting provincial manager, Mr. Munyengetero Masunga, pre-launch activities will take place on June 19, including a Candlelight Memorial Ceremony to honor those who lost their lives to HIV-related conditions. “This is a time to reflect on the journey we've walked, celebrate progress, and raise hope that one day a cure for HIV will be found,” said Masunga. Pastors and counselors will offer spiritual support during the service. The main event on the 20th will be vibrant and informative. It will feature edutainment, music, drama, poetry, and solidarity speeches all centered around the theme. Key stakeholders including government officials, traditional leaders, civil society, church representatives and the Provincial Development Committee (PDC) members are expected to attend. Mr. Masunga added that this year’s provincial commemorations rotate annually, with Chiredzi hosting in 2023 and Mwenezi in 2024. “This year, all our provincial partners are converging in Bikita,” he said. He also emphasized the broader agenda to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV), drug and substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy, which remains a concern. “Since 2015, national teenage pregnancy among 15–19-year-olds has hovered around 23%. We hope continued awareness and action will bring this down,” he concluded. *Edited by Godfrey Gusha*

Today, The Office of the President and Cabinet today held a consultative workshop with key stakeholders—including business member organizations, academia, civil society, and special interest groups—to gather input for the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). The blueprint will guide Zimbabwe’s development priorities over the next five years, as the nation accelerates efforts to become an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. Finance Minister Hon. Mthuli Ncube emphasized that stakeholder engagement is central to the NDS2 formulation process. A draft is expected by October, followed by the official launch by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in November. The 2026 national budget will align with the strategy. Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, stressed that transformative leadership, coordinated sectoral goals, and collective effort are critical for successful implementation. Summary of Hon. Priscilla Zindari-Moyo’s Speech at the World Teen Parliament Hon. Priscilla Zindari-Moyo addressed the World Teen Parliament with a powerful and forward-looking speech titled “Expectations from Teen Parliamentarians.” She emphasized that youth are not just future leaders but active contributors to governance and development today. She outlined the importance of platforms like the World Teen Parliament in shaping bold, ethical, and inclusive leaders. Drawing from Zimbabwe’s successful models—such as the Child Parliament and Youth Caucus—she encouraged teen MPs to: 1. Use their voices with courage and data-driven conviction to speak out against injustice and advocate for equality, education, and youth inclusion. 2. Think globally and act sustainably by crafting policies addressing climate change, inequality, and development beyond borders. 3. Lead with values such as respect, humility, and accountability, promoting unity and transparency. 4. Leverage digital tools to mobilize, campaign, and communicate across borders while ensuring inclusivity for marginalized youth. 5. Champion education not only for employment but as a tool for innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal transformation. 6. Recognize the role of adults—parents, educators, and mentors—as essential catalysts for shaping resilient, ethical young leaders. 7. Be agents of real change, turning discussions into action through policy development, partnerships, and impact-driven initiatives. Her speech was a rallying call for teen MPs to see themselves as global change-makers and to transform parliaments into movements of progress, inclusion, and innovation.
