*UEW Mourns the Tragic Loss of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker* The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) deeply regrets to announce the untimely and tragic death of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker, a distinguished physicist and member of our academic community. Prof. Amedeker was found murdered in a suspected robbery incident at his private residence in Gyahadzi, a suburb of the Efutu Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. Following concerns raised by his family, who reported him missing to the police, a search was launched. This led to the heartbreaking discovery of his lifeless body buried on his compound. The Ghana Police Service has since commenced full-scale investigations into the incident and one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the crime. The University commends the swift response of the police and welcomes their assurance that all those involved in this heinous act will be brought to justice. We call on the public to support the ongoing investigations by providing any relevant information that may aid in apprehending the perpetrators. The University Management, together with the entire UEW community, extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We share in their grief and pray for comfort and strength during this profoundly difficult time. In light of this unfortunate incident, the University wishes to assure all students, staff and stakeholders of its commitment to their safety and security. Measures are continuously being reviewed and enhanced in collaboration with security agencies to maintain a safe and conducive environment for academic work and personal well-being. The University will continue to work closely with the police and will provide timely updates to the public as more information becomes available. May the soul of Prof. Koku Mawuadem Amedeker rest in perfect peace. *Retrieved From*: https://uew.edu.gh/announcements/press-release-uew-mourns-tragic-loss-prof-koku-mawuadem-amedeker Signed *Registrar*

🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 *UEW-SRC* ________________________________________ *HOUSING COMMITTEE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN - _KNOW YOUR RENT RIGHTS: Protecting Every Student Tenant_* 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 Dear Students, The Housing Committee of the SRC recognizes the urgent need to educate our cherished student community on their rights and responsibilities as tenants. As part of our commitment to student welfare, it has become increasingly important to bring awareness of tenant rights directly to students—empowering them to stand against exploitation and unjust treatment by certain hostel owners and caretakers. Since the commencement of the 30th SRC Administration, the Housing Committee has recorded numerous reports of student tenants being treated unfairly—ranging from unlawful rent charges to forced evictions and breaches of rental agreements. Unfortunately, many of these students lacked adequate knowledge of their rights and were thus unable to seek redress. In response, the Housing Committee has launched a comprehensive Student Tenant Rights Awareness Campaign in close collaboration with the SRC Executive Committee and relevant legal stakeholders. This campaign seeks to heighten awareness of the laws, policies, and statutory provisions that protect student tenants—drawing its legal authority primarily from the Rent Control Act of Ghana and relevant regulatory frameworks of the University of Education, Winneba. Over the coming days, this campaign will roll out a series of targeted educational initiatives designed to inform student tenants of their rights, responsibilities, and the proper channels to seek support when faced with rental disputes. Our goal is to foster peaceful, lawful, and respectful coexistence between students and landlords/landladies within the Winneba township. We call on all student tenants to actively engage with this campaign, equip themselves with knowledge, and become advocates for fair and just housing practices. Together, we build a stronger, more informed student body. ⸻ _Issued by:_ *Stephanie Ama Brago* *Housing Committee Secretary* _________________________________ *30th SRC Administration,* *2024/2025©️* ________________________________

🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 *UEW-SRC* ________________________________________ *The 30th SRC Administration Joins Forces with SACOST, Shape Attitude Ghana, and Partners to Commemorate World Environment Day – June 5, 2025* 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱 In a united effort to combat the growing threat of plastic pollution, the 30th SRC Administration, in collaboration with the Centre for School and Community Science and Technology Studies (SACOST), Shape Attitude Ghana, and other committed partners, is proud to mark this year’s World Environment Day under the global theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution.” This initiative seeks to raise awareness among students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) about the environmental dangers posed by plastic waste and to inspire collective action in reducing littering and promoting sustainable habits. World Environment Day serves as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet. It calls on us to reflect deeply on our daily choices and to embrace eco-conscious behaviours that support a cleaner, healthier environment. Addressing plastic pollution is not only an environmental necessity but also a moral imperative—one that demands urgency, unity, and unwavering commitment from every student. In light of this, the 30th SRC Administration urges the entire student body to join an expansive and impactful campaign. Let us be the generation that not only understands the importance of environmental stewardship but lives it—through advocacy, action, and awareness. Together, we can reshape attitudes, reduce plastic waste, and champion a green future for all. Let’s beat plastic pollution—starting now, starting with us. *#Peevabeverages* *#RotaryClubofAccraKanda* *#RotaractWinneba* _________________________________ *30th SRC Administration,* *2024/2025©️* ________________________________
