News release 🗞️📢 The South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership has announced its second annual Culture Conference, set to take place on Wednesday 25 June from 10am until 4pm at the South Holland Centre in Spalding. Organised by the Partnership, comprising of Boston Borough Council, East Lindsey District Council and South Holland District Council, the conference will delve into the vibrant cultural landscape of the region with the theme of storytelling. It will also celebrate the exciting launch of “Story Tellers”, the Partnership’s Arts Council England funded National Portfolio Organisation project. Attendees can expect a day of insightful discussions, collaborative opportunities and a chance to share the narratives that make the sub-region special. The afternoon will be dedicated to networking, allowing for better understanding of the sector and to explore contributions to the area’s key cultural frameworks: Culture for All, Cultural Infrastructure, Culture for Health and Wellbeing, and Cultural Places. The conference will feature a keynote address from Claire Buckley, Programme Lead at Julie’s Bicycle, a leading charity working on sustainability in arts and culture. To make the day even more personal, attendees are invited to share an image and a sentence showcasing a creative success they've achieved in the past year. There are also lightning pitch opportunities for attendees to share their stories and promote their work. Fifteen delegates will have the chance to speak to the conference about their recent work and plans for the year ahead. These spots will be allocated on a first come first served basis and can be selected in the 'add-ons' section during the online registration. Councillor Graham Marsh, East Lindsey District Council's representative on the NPO culture board, Councillor Sarah Sharpe, Boston Borough Council's representative on the NPO culture board, and Councillor Elizabeth Sneath, South Holland District Council's representative on the NPO culture board, said: “After the success of last year’s event we are delighted to be holding another Culture Conference in South and East Lincolnshire, to bring together our cultural community and hear their inspiring stories of how they are making a difference across the sub-region. “The power of storytelling is fundamental to understanding and celebrating our shared heritage and future aspirations and this conference provides the perfect platform for connection, strengthening the shared cultural landscape of our part of the county. We hope to see and hear lots of local arts, culture and heritage organisations there on the day to share their journeys, learnings and opportunities together.” To find out more or to book a place at the Culture Conference, visit 2025cultureconference.eventbrite.co.uk. News Release 🗞️📢 A model of HMS Taku, a British T Class Submarine, has been presented to Ayscoughfee Hall by the Spalding Branch of the Royal Naval Association ⚓ The model was previously on loan to South Holland District Council and was on display in the Priory Road offices. On Wednesday 21 May, the model was moved from the council offices to Ayscoughfee Hall, which will become its permanent home. The submarine was launched on May 20, 1939, a few months prior to the start of the Second World War. HMS Taku saw action during the war, in British waters and the Mediterranean, until it was heavily damaged in 1944 when it was struck by a mine. She returned to active service a few months later and was retired in June 1945. In 1941, it was involved in a wartime campaign where towns and villages were invited to adopt a warship, Spitfire, tank or other vessels to support the war effort. In one week, the people of Spalding raised over £350,000, the equivalent today of raising around £15 million. Read more online: https://loom.ly/uErrHFU 🔗

Spalding Cemetery tributes We are continuing to see some incidents of wildlife disturbing and moving tributes and items left on graves at Spalding Cemetery. We understand how incredibly personal and meaningful these items are, and how upsetting this can be to discover when visiting, but want to reassure residents that this is almost always down to the large array of squirrels, deer and other animals on the site, rather than the actions of other people. As it's impossible for us to know which graves these belong to once they have been moved, we have carefully gathered and respectfully laid out any items found on the large roundabout in the centre of the cemetery, to allow loved ones who notice something missing to locate and retrieve their cherished mementos. If you have any concerns, please email [email protected] so the team can help. Thank you for helping us maintain a respectful and peaceful environment within our beautiful cemetery.

News release 🗞️📢 Spalding’s Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens has reopened its popular play area, following a period of refurbishment and repairs through a £24,000 investment by South Holland District Council. Work was required at the family favourite park after an act of vandalism last year, which resulted in the destruction of the cage swing as well as significant damage to the surrounding flooring. However, now that work is completed, the swing and its safety surface have been completely replaced with new, high-quality installations. As part of the work the team has also carried out repair and renovations to the jeep equipment, ensuring its continued enjoyment for young adventurers for many years to come. Set across five acres, Ayscoughfee Gardens provides a beautiful setting in the heart of Spalding with surroundings and facilities to keep families entertained over summer. As well as the play area there are recently refurbished tennis courts, a bowling green and a putting green, as well as the stunning Peace Garden and ornamental lake, popular café and of course Ayscoughfee Hall Museum, a mid-15th century house which is now home to fascinating local history and exhibits. It also follows the recent start of works by the council on the historic Grade I listed Lutyens war memorial in the Gardens, which will see a five-month, £205,000 programme of repairs and improvements to the monument including cleaning of stonework, roof tile replacement, repair of cracks, new skirting, flooring replacement and the repair of the memorial panels. Councillor Henry Bingham, portfolio holder for assets and strategic planning, said: “It’s great that the team have been able to not only fix the vandalism but also get the area improved so that it can be enjoyed again. Mindless vandalism like this robs residents of the ability to enjoy these areas and it is good that this could be turned around so quickly ready for the summer months, and we remain committed to doing all we can to maintain and improve our community assets.” Ayscoughfee Gardens are open from dawn until dusk every day of the year except Christmas, and are free for people to visit and enjoy. The Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday between 10.30am and 4pm.
