Further works on the restoration of the Grade I listed Lutyens War Memorial in Spalding’s Ayscoughfee Gardens got underway last week, with the installation of a new perimeter French drain and tank to help divert rain flow away from the monument.
These protective works follow the specialist clean and structural and render analyses that took place last summer, as we seek to safeguard this incredibly significant piece of history for generations to come.
The council is also working on the procurement of contractors for major rendering and brickwork repair and rebuild for the Memorial, which is hoped to get started during the drier months later this year, to avoid any risk of damage being caused by cold or wet weather.
We thank residents for their patience and support as we work to protect this unique and poignant local landmark.
