The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued thunderstorm warnings for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until 6pm today (Sunday, 15 June). Specific districts in Johor and Sabah are also on the watchlist, with rough conditions forecast across both the peninsula and Borneo. In the east coast states, the entire Terengganu region has been flagged, alongside areas like Rompin and Tanah Tinggi Cameron in Pahang. Over in Selangor, Gombak, Sabak Bernam, and Hulu Selangor are among the locations likely to be affected. Southern districts such as Segamat, Batu Pahat, and Pontian in Johor are also included. In Sabah, alerts cover both the West Coast—spanning Papar, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran—and interior areas such as Ranau, as well as Tawau and Tongod.

Penang has officially been chosen to host Malaysia Day 2025, confirmed by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Which means… get ready for patriotic vibes, parades, and absolute peak-hour chaos. Better book your hotel and your parking spot now. This yearly rotation thing isn’t new — each state takes turns hosting to keep things fair and make sure everyone gets their share of the spotlight. Datuk Fahmi said it’s to promote unity, inclusivity, and probably test how much Malaysians really love each other when stuck in traffic for 2-3 hours. The exact venue has not been confirmed, but one thing’s for sure. If you’re planning to be in Penang on 16 September, might wanna leave the house before Subuh. 🥲😅

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed that the government will not reintroduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) for now, citing the burden it would place on lower-income Malaysians. He explained that GST is a broad-based tax affecting all citizens, including the poor, fishermen and smallholders, regardless of the low rate. Anwar stressed that GST should only be considered when the economy strengthens and wages rise significantly. He criticised the opposition for politicising the issue, noting that targeted taxation, like on imported luxury goods, ensures fairness. Tax revenue, he said, is vital for national development but the rich, not the poor should carry that burden.
