Here is this weeks snapshot of five cases walthamstow residents have raised with my office. In total we had 250 new cases last including these five - so a reminder this is not the sum total of the work we have done but gives you a better understanding of what is in my in box. I'm afraid illness and this wretched virus lots of people have had still stalks me so I'm very behind in correspondence- so if you're waiting for a response from me I do ask for your patience! As well as working on these cases last week I went to Brussels to advocate for resetting our relationship with the EU, met with ministers about public spending and the forthcoming immigration legislation, held a local community meeting on how we can tackle crime, spoke in parliament on the need to align our carbon trade with Europe and gave the keynote speech at the Fawcett Society conference about the case for equality.
Today we continue the work to repair and reset our relationship with Europe - good to take part in this ‘fireside conversation’ with Sandro Gozi MEP at the EU UK forum in Brussels on the possibilities that will come from working with our neighbours on our shared challenges. When we stop repeating the debates of 2016 and 2019 and start talking about 2025 and beyond opportunities for both sides open up.
Thank you to everyone who came tonight to our community meeting on addressing crime and anti social behaviour in Walthamstow - six months on from our first meeting there’s still work to do and there’s much that has changed which is good to see. Here’s a flavour of the discussion - will write back on next steps to all who have been in touch about these issues.
A reminder that we have a public event tonight on crime and anti social behaviour in Walthamstow for local residents- very conscious that its hard to find a time that works for all concerned about these issues so want to be clear the event is designed to work for residents to be able to come anytime between 6-7.30pm. You do not need to do any preparation to be able to participate but if you want us to chase up a crime report please do bring the CAD details with you. I'm afraid due to security concerns I can't post the venue here but it is near Blackhorse Road station - if you would like to come please do rsvp to office@workingforwalthamstow. org.uk with your address to confirm you are a Walthamstow resident and we will send you the details.
A court has ruled the conservatives decision to go ahead with the Rosebank oil field was flawed because it didn’t take full account of the environmental impact of this project - this means we have a chance to put our environmental and economic ambitions first and rethink Rosebank. #rethinkRosebank
Walthamstow I pledge we are working together to make the case for the money to rebuild Whipps Cross to be released sooner - we have fought for this hospital for over 20 years and we won’t stop now!
If we don’t resolve the mess the Tory hard brexit created on emissions trading our economy and our environment will suffer - good to hear ministers today commit to doing just that at the European summit in May. join us in the labour movement for Europe to help support this!
