From the Acts chapter 2 to Azuza Street and then the Ayo Babalola phenomenon of the 1930s, revivals of righteousness and massive salvation of sinners can not be denied. Such revivals in history brought unprecedented consciousness of God's power and glory. People of that generation trusted God more than mortal men. They sought after God's kingdom with tenacity and wouldn't allow idolatry to thrive! The call of men of God wasn't predicated on hunger, unemployment, or craze after materialism. Recent history, however, does not align with such testimony. Sanctuaries are becoming saturated with miscreants and touts pretending as priests! To have a mammoth crowd in mega auditoriums with state-of-the-art facilities and musical instruments, stand-up comedians, and dancing work-outs are the current metrics of measuring revivals. This is rather sad. It is time to break the veils of mirage called revival these days and stop the promotion of syncretism and deception that is prevalent in the modern church. Prayer is offered for money, and miracles are presented for sale. Many lives have been strangulated in the hands of the modern Simon, the sorcerer! If the remnants can effectively mobilise a re-evangelisation of pseudo-believers of today and raise true ministers for the end-time harvest, the last waves of revivals through pure discipleship models will take over and the Lord's soon return will be facilitated. Although, the pockets of revivals of today should not be despised, albeit, we must get radical about soul winning and be desperate after Christ character, for better impact, as the clock of the end-time ticks away! Discipleship is not only about teaching but also about birthing, nurturing, and grooming of a generation. It is about reproducing the DNA of righteousness in those who will represent God better than you tomorrow. Many ministries are suffering from a lack of quality leadership because they didn't see poor followership patterns as a problem before it escalated to leadership failure. Again, many young men in ministry today are drunk with empty titles and ego madness. They are not willing to take instructions because they are in a hurry to give orders and get venerated. Some of them are little deities in their little spaces of ministries. Many ministers want to satisfy their carnal appetites by gluttony at the expense of the destinies around them. Whatever you do today will form the standard of your ministry, marriage or business tomorrow. Are you a preacher who has never been discipled? Are you a businessman or woman who is not prudent in resource management? Are you a reckless spendthrift? When your character doesn't align with God's word, you can only raise dysfunctional followers like yourself at best. A campus fellowship without discipline will lack discipleship. A church of hypocrites will produce a gang of the lawless and the miscreants. A country is considered a failed state when the teeming youth are never engaged or developed to add values to their own future! If you're not ready to be thoroughly discipled, you must be ready to be diminished by demonic influences. Whatever you're doing as a leader, secret or open, is a precursor to determine the direction of your followers. If you live in immorality, you will never prosper in the ministry of holiness. Immorality will be your identity however smart you may appear. Discipleship is the last move of God in this generation! If it is left unattended, tomorrow is not a guarantee for any nation or church. Satan is busy evangelising and discipling in society because the church is dangerously on holiday. Don't forget that David's error became a pattern in his family. A rudder is a primary control mechanism used to steer a ship, a boat, a submarine, or any vehicle that moves through a fluid medium. It then means that without the rudder, the vehicle could stray and ultimately sink! A rudder in the context of this discourse is the curriculum of discipline, the godly character patterns, the critical lifestyle pointers, and other metrics of valued behaviour template that could guide the next generation. These are the metrics that guided Timothy while growing up under his mum and his grandma. Unfortunately, things have changed. So-called mentors and role models of today are as dangerously toxic as the generation they're pretending to be mentoring. The music industry is a mess. The business world is a scam. The political economy is a tragedy. The education sector is a piece of painting on an opaque canvas. The health platform is vague and compromised. The security landscape is run by terror and tyranny. If a leader never had the history of following a dignified mentor, he or she would never build a sustainable rudder to guide the next generation from being overrun by the madness of modernity and the glittering vanities of infamy. How would you evangelise the wayward and the reckless by preaching a message full of fireworks without the flames of pentecost? How would you rescue some youngsters who see ministry as a money-making venture? How will you reach a bewitched congregation to stop them from perceiving miracle as magic? Such a spirit is always an inch away from shameful conduct. It has no sense of shame. Impunity and impropriety are the natural drivers of the spirit of Reuben. It doesn't matter if you place Reuben in a palace. He will look for muddy waters to swim. He tore away the covering of Abrahamic covenant upon his life as a result of momentary pleasure of sin. It was a spirit of compromised leadership. He had no value for fine linen, which is the righteousness of the saints. He carried excellent and innovative skills, but his blood got corrupted by depravity that ultimately contaminated his conduct. Consequently, he couldn't excel in his calling and purpose! If you flirt around with any kind of Reuben, don't blame him if he deploys his unstable waters to sweep away your divinely ordained destiny! He came to participate in the discipleship training of our ministry. I gave him lots of opportunities to learn, but I was surprised that he had a different kind of intention. He was deviously desperate. He was always loitering around guest ministers and some brethren who were well-off in the ministry. He had no giving or sacrificial lifestyle. When he refused to follow the path of grace, he was ultimately overcome by the spirit of iniquity in the lives of those who got attracted to him rather than becoming connected to Jesus, the giver of all grace! Today, many young men are Gehazi-personified. They are covetous and excessively indulgent in ungodly activities. They appear zealous in the midst of other brethren, yet empty zeal and religion couldn't make them any better than a counterfeit and hypocrite. Gehazi was a certified pretender. He had the audacity to receive and hide unauthorised gifts from his master. Sometimes, I feel very sad when I see people who are very close to redemption running on a slippery path to destruction. That you're close to any man of God is not a licence for entering into heaven. You must get to know Jesus yourself and for real. A Gehazi is an individual who could spare time to follow a minister but never grew up to become a disciple. Following a leader is not the same as becoming a child of God. Men follow men for different reasons. Don't be caught in the web of judgment or hell before you could realise the devastating loss of not knowing Christ. He single-handedly mobilised the genocide of an entire Jewish nation. His mission was triggered by a flimsy excuse for the so-called discourteous act of a Jew called Mordecai. That wasn't the full story. He was driven by overblown ego, unspeakable greed, and pathological wickedness. Do you think everyone around you who appears like a friend is truly your friend? Many families are grappling with physiological challenges while waiting for the fruit of the womb. Most of these matters have been resolved by God with unfathomable testimonies. Hannah's case in the Bible is a reminder that there's no bad case that the Lord can not rewrite. She became the mother of a notable prophet and several other ones. Barrenness doesn't exist in God's plan for real kingdom sons. If you're experiencing a waiting season as a redeemed believer, you're not barren. You're simply being prepared to carry a bigger manifestation of His glory. However, there's a major shift in today's church. Emphasis got diverted from evangelising the sinner to the celebration of frivolities and the pursuit of other carnal activities to the detriment of the great commission. None of the disciples of Jesus ever suffered a menopausal experience. They were able to sustain the revival of reproductive fertility from the day of pentecost until they completed their apostolic mandate. The present breed of believers have no value for soul winning due to the menace of collective backsliding. Sadly enough, the devil cleverly replaced soul winning with entertainment that is intentionally designed by the devil to endanger the great commission. No matter how old you may be in the faith, if you're not winning souls, you're simply a lost soul needing to be evangelised all over again! Remember, "Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing..." It is important to prayerfully seek out a willing follower rather than attract a fraudulent and crooked hangers-on. The biblical prodigal son returned home because he went bankrupt after he had squandered his father's investment. But it is on record that he shamefully wasted his father's wealth. The father took him back because he felt that his return was genuine. Interestingly, not many prodigal will ever return. I disagree with the opinion that it doesn't matter to work among prodigious brethren. If your labour of 20 years over 20 people produced only one follower who is committed to the mandate of Christ in your care, how would you explain to God that you haven't laboured on the wrong plantation. Without being immodest, most people in today's sanctuaries are worse than the biblical prodigal son. Every son will prove his source (DNA) by the quality of his character. I know how 'brethren' could be dangerously disingenuous, treacherous, and sneaky. They will pretend to be labouring with you in kingdom service, but with a different motive. Some of them can not sacrifice their time, their energy, or their resources in service. They expect Jesus and their leader to do everything while they won't lift a finger. The names of those who gave five loaves and two fishes weren't mentioned in Scripture, but their deeds were engraved in gold. Dear minister or missionary, Christ is coming soon. You've got to stop labouring on the generation of devious prodigal. Otherwise, you may have nothing to show for your seeds at the time of harvest. God forbid that you will meet the Lord empty-handed. Be guided by the Holy Spirit to identify your Timothys and Joshuas so that you will be rescued from the generation of Korah and his companion. Joshua did not usurp power from Moses, and Timothy didn't hijack the ministry of Paul.You have a choice to waste or maximise your grace. Prodigals are resource wasters.
