🔺DARUNAKA ( DANDRUFF) 🔺*DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS* *Seborrheic Dermatitis *Psoriasis of Scalp *Tinea Capitis *Contact Dermatitis *Lichen Planopilaris *Dry Scalp (Xerosis) *Atopic Dermatitis 🔺*SAMPRAPTI (Pathogenesis)* -Vata–Kapha doṣa vitiation in śiras region -Leads to Roskhata Kandu, slesma sanchaya in romakupa -Obstruction of hair follicles → dandruff, dryness, hair fall (AH,Uttara Tantra 23/18–20) 🔺 *UPASAYA* (Relieving Factors) -Sneha prayoga (oil application) -Snigdha, usna dravyas -siro abhyanga (head massage) -samana lepa with kapha-vata hara herbs 🔺*ANUPASAYA* (Aggravating Factors) -Exposure to cold wind or dry air -Dry hair washing without oiling -Mental stress -Use of alkaline soaps or shampoos -Skipping hair oiling 🔺 *SAMANYA CHIKITSA* (General Treatment) *Line of treatment: -Vata-Kapha shamana -Sodhana if chronic or severe -Snehana (external and internal) * Internal Medicines: -Triphala Churna – mild laxative -Guggulu Tiktaka Ghṛta – in chronic dandruff -Manasamitra Vataka – if stress-related * External: -Siro abhyanga with medicated oils like: -Brngaraja Taila -Nimba Taila -Kuntalakanti Taila -Lepa: Mixed paste of Nimba, Amalaki, Manjishtha, and Haridra *Siro lepa with Triphala 🔺*VISHESHA CHIKITSA* -External Oil Applications: -Dhurdhurapatradi Taila *Kaphahara, reduces Kandu (itch), PāṭalaṭaAshtanga Hṛdaya Uttara Tantra 23/22 -Nimba Taila Antifungal, Raktashodhaka, Kaphahara Bhaishajya Ratnavali – Ksudraroga Chikitsa -Brngarja Taila Kesha vardhaka, Kaphavata hara(Yoga Ratnkara – Kṣudraroga) -Kuntalakanti Taila Hair tonic, strengthens scalp Practical application Leave for 30–60 minutes and wash with herbal decoction. 📌Siro Lepa (Medicated Pastes for Scalp) -Nimba + Haridra + Triphala + Takra (buttermilk) Antibacterial, relieves itching, flaking -Manjishta + Daruharidra+ Chandan + Yashtimadhu Reduces inflammation, balances Pitta–Kapha 🔺siro dhara (Therapeutic Oil Pouring) -Useful in chronic Dāruṇaka or if associated with stress, hair loss, dryness. -Ksirabala Taila -Brahmi Taila -Yashtimadhu Taila 🔺 Internal Medications -Guggulu Tiktaka Ghṛta 5–10 ml/day Chronic skin issues, balances Doṣas -Kaishora Guggulu 1–2 tabs BID Rakta–Pitta–Kapha shāmaka -Arogya Vardhini Vati 1–2 tabs BID Liver cleanser, reduces inflammation -Triphala Churna 3–5 g at bedtime Regulates bowels, detoxifies skin 🔺Virechana (purgation therapy) – With Trivrt Lehyam or Avipattikara Churna – Clears Pitta and Kapha from system *Takra Dhara – Pacifies Kapha, cools the scalp -Basti (if Vata involvement) *Especially if associated with dryness and hair fall
