🀄 We recently hosted an eye-opening appreciation session that invited trade professionals and curious learners to rediscover the beauty of Huang Jiu, China’s ancient golden elixir. Often overshadowed by baijiu and grape wine, this 2,500-year-old tradition surprised many with its depth, versatility, and unexpected elegance. Guided by Jeff Ho, a passionate advocate and seasoned educator for beverage culture, the session explored the craftsmanship behind Shaoxing Huang Jiu, how to smell, sip, and savor its many styles, and how food pairings can enhance its signature umami and warming character. We also uncovered common myths and misconceptions, paving the way for a renewed appreciation of this storied beverage. What truly captured everyone’s attention was the creative cocktail segment, where Huang Jiu took on a modern twist—proving just how adaptable and exciting it can be in contemporary mixology. From classic-style serves to innovative concoctions, participants left with a new perspective on this underrated gem. This special session was made possible in partnership with Ang Leong Huat, featuring a curated range from the iconic Pagoda (塔牌) brand. Participants experienced a diverse spectrum of flavor profiles—from lighter, more delicate expressions to rich, aged styles—showcasing just how dynamic and expressive Huang Jiu can be.
