On this day in 1865, the last enslaved Black Americans finally won their freedom. More than two months after the end of the Civil War and nearly two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, emancipation had finally reached Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom isn’t achieved overnight — and the fight for freedom, equality, and justice for all Pennsylvanians isn’t over. It’s up to each of us to do the hard and necessary work of advancing real freedom for every single Pennsylvanian. I believe we can rise to that challenge. Happy Juneteenth, Pennsylvania.
We can’t expect Pennsylvanians to live healthy lives without access to safe, affordable housing — and right now, we need more of it. That’s why my budget calls for $10 million to help first-time homebuyers cover closing costs, expands our largest and most flexible affordable housing tool, and seals eviction records if you weren’t actually evicted.
My proposal to fund mass transit just passed the PA House (for the fourth time). This bipartisan bill injects critical dollars into public transit across Pennsylvania AND adds new funding to repair roads and bridges - because folks rely on both to get where they need to go. As graduation inches closer for high school and college students all across our Commonwealth, I want to congratulate the class of 2025 on their incredible achievements both in and out of the classroom. Our kids are our future — and that’s why we’ve made historic investments in them. Over the last two years, we’ve secured more than $2 billion in funding increases for K-12 education in Pennsylvania — giving more students the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed. As a result, we have more teachers in our classroom, more mental health resources available to our students, and we’re seeing results as graduation rates rise and test scores improve. But we need to keep it up and continue to invest in our next generation of leaders.

I’ve visited many of these Triple As, and I’ve seen how they’ve been underfunded for too long. This year, let's make a significant new investment in our Triple As and support our seniors.
