*Russia's war in Ukraine is unjustifiable and illegal and its disinformation poses a real threat.* In a resolution, MEPs have voted in favour of sanctions against Russian media outlets, enhancing fact-checking rules and rejecting Russian attempts to justify its war of aggression against Ukraine. Parliament has called on the European Commission to strictly enforce the Digital Services Act in a bid to counter the recent relaxation of moderation rules by major social media companies. They have expressed their deep concern that this latest development will further enable Russia’s disinformation campaign to spread around the world.
