*SEFWI WIAWSO CoE PRINCIPAL APPEALS TO PREZ MAHAMA TO FULFIL INFRASTRUCTURE PROMISE MADE BY THE PAST GOVERNMENT.*
The Principal of Wiawso College of Education, Prof. Emmanuel Carsamer is pleading with H. E John Dramani Mahama to ensure fulfilment of an infrastructure project promise made by the previous Akuffo Addo led NPP government. He noted that insufficient facilities has been a crucial hindrance for admitting a required number of students to pursue their tertiary education. He made this plea during the 15th congregation ceremony to confer Bachelor Degree in Basic Education upon the graduands.
According to the principal, “this year’s 15th congregation ceremony is the second batch of graduates to be granted Bachelor’s Degrees in Basic Education. The total of 389 graduates featured in three different programmes; JHS, Primary and Early Grade Education respectively. Out of these,31 graduates obtained 1st Class Honour, 203 had 2nd Class Upper Division, 128 with 2nd Class Lower Division, 20 had 3rd Class with none of them obtaining a Pass Mark”.
However, despite the college’s outstanding academic performances over the years, infrastructure deficit continues to clamp down the development of the school, forcing management compel some students to stay away from campus.
In an interview with the principal of the college after the graduation ceremony, Prof Emmanuel Carsamer commeded Sefwi Wiawso branch of Agricultural Development Bank and Zylogy Timber company Ltd for their massive support for the college.
He also made an appeal to the president H E John Dramani Mahama and the Education Minister designate Hon Harruna Iddrisu to endeavour to put up a 300 bed capacity hostel which the former Minister,Hon Osei Yaw Adutwum had promised in the previous Akuffo Addo led NPP administration.
He further called on other cooperate institutions especially the Anglican Church to come to their aid and make their presence felt in the school.
Also, the guest speaker for the occasion, Prof Michael Osei Adu who is the head of department for Crop Science at the University of Cape Coast in his address urged the graduates to constantly adapt to the new technologies and methodologies of the 21st century education to be effective with students of this digital world.
He once more also encouraged the teachers to see any challenge of infrastructure or access to technological equipment as an opportunity for innovation but not road blocks.
