This #thoughtfulthursday, we highlight key insights from our ED's exclusive interview with Forus international on Cyberstalking, recorded in May 2024. "We have been able to see some progress in terms of some laws around freedom of association and we need to deepen the progress, but in terms of freedom of expression, we are seeing the use of cybercrime laws. The ECOWAS Commission mandated the Nigerian Government to do some reviews and I think we have seen the review in the 2024 Reform of the Cybercrime Act, but we still have the Police making use of the old law so there's a gap. Of course the law was only just reviewed between February and March 2024, so that means they've not been on top of what the new law looks like, but there's opportunity for raising awareness and also for ensuring that citizens understand what cyberstalking mean and that some of the issues or examples that we see locally being used by the police as example of cyberstalking are already taken out of the new reform of that law which has been signed into law by the president." -- Oyebisi Babatunde Oluseyi Catch the full conversation here: https://youtu.be/m0cOBE4QGQ0?feature=shared NNNGO is a member of Forus International.
