FBR’s Rs 80 bn last year collection transferred to Sindh this year, says Murad. • Domicile irregularities are under investigation, • Transparency and accountability in domicile issue reaffirmed. • Murad Shah outlines vision for resilient, sustainable future KARACHI (Feb 12): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed concerns regarding the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) tax collection process noting that while a significant amount, estimated to be over Rs 80 billion, was collected last year, the funds from the previous year have only been transferred to the province this year. "We want the federal government to transfer the funds promptly to ensure prompt investment in the social sector," he stated while speaking to the media after addressing the Pakistan Leadership Conversation 2025 at a local hotel. The Chief Minister expressed his dissatisfaction, highlighting Sindh’s major concern: the delayed transfer of funds. He emphasised that despite collecting revenue on time, the province does not receive its rightful share on time. He urged the federal government to ensure that these funds are transferred without unnecessary delays. Regarding domicile irregularities, Murad Ali Shah assured that the matter is under investigation. He also stated that any individual found guilty of wrongdoing would face strict punishment, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability. In a keynote address at a high-profile gathering of dignitaries, government officials, and stakeholders, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah presented an ambitious vision for building a resilient and sustainable province. Speaking on the theme “Building Resilience and Sustainability: Sindh’s Path Forward,” he underscored the urgent need for transformative action in education, healthcare, water management, infrastructure, and economic development. Mr. Shah acknowledged the province’s rich cultural heritage and immense potential while openly discussing the socio-economic and environmental challenges that require immediate attention. He emphasised that Sindh is at a turning point, prepared to overcome obstacles and embrace progress. The Chief Minister highlighted several key areas of concern, including poverty, low literacy rates, malnutrition, high infant mortality, and water scarcity. He described the loss of up to 75 per cent of Sindh’s water resources due to inefficient practices as `unacceptable’ and vowed to implement sustainable solutions. He assured that the provincial government is taking decisive steps to address these pressing issues. Regarding education, Murad Shah stated that efforts are underway to boost literacy rates and eliminate gender disparities in schools, ensuring every child has access to quality education. He added that strengthening healthcare services, particularly in maternal and child health, remains a priority. “The government is committed to reducing infant mortality and malnutrition through infrastructure investments and targeted programs,” he said. The Chief Minister mentioned that the Sindh Water and Agriculture Transformation Project aims to modernise irrigation, reduce water losses, and promote efficient agricultural practices to secure the province’s future. On the topic of electric vehicles, he announced that Karachi is set to introduce 500 electric buses as part of a three-phase plan to deploy 8,000 eco-friendly vehicles. “This initiative is expected to reduce pollution, ease congestion, and provide a more dignified commute for millions,” he stated. Regarding CPEC 2.0, the Chief Minister expressed optimism about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, focusing on industrialization and agricultural development. He noted that upgrades in transportation and energy infrastructure will enhance connectivity and create thousands of jobs across Sindh. Recognizing that Sindh’s transformation cannot occur in isolation, Murad Shah called for stronger partnerships with the federal government, international stakeholders, and the private sector. He emphasized that public participation is crucial to ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure, implementing sustainable practices, and fostering economic growth. “Resilience and sustainability are not just buzzwords; they are the guiding principles shaping Sindh’s future,” he stated. The address received widespread support, with stakeholders applauding the government’s proactive approach to tackling Sindh’s most pressing challenges. As the province embarks on its journey toward progress, all eyes will be on the implementation of these ambitious plans.
