I spoke in Parliament on this issue last October, voicing my concerns about how advanced technologies like AI, deepfakes, and misinformation can distort truth, erode trust, and undermine fair elections. For residents in Yio Chu Kang, my advocacy reflects the shared values we hold dear: fairness, integrity, and vigilance against manipulation. In my speech, I called for clearer safeguards in the Bill to ensure it doesn't stifle legitimate freedom of expression or lead to overreach. I raised questions about deepfake detection in private channels like WhatsApp, the potential for selective enforcement, and the challenges of countering foreign interference in our elections. Importantly, I championed the need for public education on digital literacy so everyone—from seniors to students—can recognize and resist misinformation.
