𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆 This weekend, I stood with SM Lee Hsien Loong and my fellow MPs as Chingay@Heartlands rolled through Ang Mo Kio, Kebun Baru, and Yio Chu Kang. A drizzle fell, but it didn’t stop the crowd. It didn’t stop the floats. Because here in Singapore, we know how to show up for one another—rain or shine. As SM Lee stopped at AMK Central, I “took over” the procession as the vibrant floats traveled from Teck Ghee to Yio Chu Kang and onward to Kebun Baru and the rest of AMK GRC. Watching the joy unfold in the heartlands reminded me: Chingay is so much more than a parade. It’s a celebration of who we are—a nation built on diversity, united by tradition, and bound by our shared love for food and connection. Last weekend, I joined my Green View RN residents for a heartwarming CNY celebration, where the festive beats of the lion dance filled the air. Families bonded over calligraphy, interactive games, and a delicious lunch buffet. Of course, the highlight was the energetic lion troupe, cheekily tossing oranges to spread prosperity and joy! Nestled in Fudu Walk Park, this Hub will be more than just a facility—it’s a place where seniors can participate in activities that keep both body and spirit engaged. From fitness programs to health talks, hobby groups, and social connections, every part of this space is built to foster a sense of belonging and independence. With smart features like digital access and after-hours flexibility, it’s a true reflection of how we, as a community, adapt to meet the needs of our aging population. But that’s not all. We also celebrated the launch of the Lentor Community Garden, where neighbors will gather to grow, learn, and share resources, contributing to Singapore’s sustainable future. 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 In Parliament, I raised a crucial question about the use of ketamine as a treatment for severe depression. While clinical trials have shown that ketamine nasal spray can be effective, its history as a recreational drug may lead to stigma and misconceptions. I asked the Ministry of Health what steps will be taken to educate the public and healthcare professionals about its therapeutic use and how we can ensure tight regulatory control to prevent misuse. For residents in Yio Chu Kang and beyond, mental health care remains a growing concern, and access to safe, effective, and well-regulated treatment options is key. The Ministry assured that strict safeguards are in place—ketamine is classified as a controlled drug, only prescribed by psychiatrists in hospitals and specialist clinics. Patients are carefully monitored, and its use is reviewed regularly.
