Last weekend, I joined the Swee Kow Kuan Temple community for the temple’s annual Chinese New Year dinner. At first glance, it was a gathering like any other—great local dishes, laughter rippling through the temple, a shared wish for prosperity in the new year. But beneath it all was something deeper: a quiet reaffirmation of the ties that hold us together. I met with the temple committee, spoke with residents, listened to stories that stretched across generations.
