20 January marks the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Donetsk Airport. More than ten years ago, the battle for this strategic stronghold became one of the first to prove Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression to be indomitable. Called ‘сyborgs’ for their extraordinary endurance, heroism, and commitment, the airport defenders fought against unimaginable odds, many at the cost of their health and even life. They withstood for 242 days till the building was blown up. The bravery and resolve of the 'cyborgs' have emboldened many Ukrainian defenders in the ongoing defence against Russia's full-scale invasion. We honour their feat and remember every hero who fought for our homeland.
