On 22 January, Ukrainians mark Unity Day. While each day of resistance against the full-scale Russian invasion shows the strength of Ukrainian unity, this date holds special historical significance. On 22 January 1919, the Ukrainian People's Republic, with its capital in Kyiv, and the West Ukrainian People's Republic, declared in Lviv, came together to proclaim the Unification Act. The dream of an independent and united Ukrainian state came to life, even if only for a time. Today, appreciation for this unity remains unshaken among the Ukrainians. We are united, we stand together, and thus – we will prevail.
