Since August 2024, there have been reported 79 executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces in 24 separate incidents. According to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, the number has seriously increased. A lot of captured soldiers were shot on the spot, even if they were unarmed or wounded. Some Russian public figures have even openly called for the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war. International law prohibits the 'no quarter' approach, making such actions a war crime. That is why the restoration of justice is an essential part of Ukraine's Peace Formula, proposed by President Zelenskyy. It includes the establishment of a Special Tribunal for Russia's aggression and cooperation with the International Criminal Court to hold Russia accountable and ensure reparations for the war crimes committed against Ukraine.
