Local leaders, police, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) quickly responded to the news and launched an investigation in the nearby bushes. They found more body parts that were badly decomposed. Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, acting spokesperson for the Manicaland police, confirmed that the skull belonged to 73-year-old Milton Makondo, who had been missing for several weeks. Investigators also found clothing that was identified as belonging to Makondo. Despite searching the area, police did not find any additional evidence to explain how Makondo died. The Domborembizi community is anxious and seeking answers about this tragic event and their safety. Milton Makondo was last seen on January 14, 2025, by his son Pearson, who lived nearby. On February 3, 2025, around 9 AM, Kudakwashe Majarira discovered the skull at her home and called local leaders. Pearson identified the skull as his father's, prompting him to report the incident to the Rusape Rural Police. A search led to the finding of human remains and clothing in the bushes, which Pearson confirmed belonged to his father. There were no signs of struggle at the scene, and the remains were taken to Rusape General Hospital for an autopsy.
