🔆 Moidams Inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage List 📍 Context: ✅ Moidams, the royal burial mounds of Assam's Ahom dynasty, have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as a Cultural Property, making it India’s 43rd World Heritage Site. ✅ The announcement was made during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee in New Delhi. ✅ Moidams now join Kaziranga National Park and Manas Wildlife Sanctuary as Assam’s third World Heritage site. 📍 About Moidams (Pyramids of Assam) ✅ Historical Background: Built between the 13th-19th centuries, these mound burials were used for Ahom royals and resemble Egyptian pyramids and Chinese royal tombs. ✅ Location: Charaideo district (Royal Moidams). Other Moidams found in Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and eastern Assam. 📍 Structural Features: ✅ Design: Earthen mounds with vaulted chambers. Covered with a grassy dome and topped with an octagonal pavilion (Chow Chali). Surrounded by a low octagonal wall with a single entrance. ✅ Burial System: Unlike Hindu cremation, the Ahoms (Tai origin) practiced burial. Moidams contained kings, grave goods, animals, and even servants for the afterlife. ✅ Sacred Elements: Special trees, water bodies, and Tai-Ahom rituals (Me-Dam-Me-Phi) are still practiced here. #art_and_culture
