The big question when Ruben Amorim’s line-up dropped was who would be playing up front.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were both on the bench for the first time under Amorim, leading to a guessing game before kick-off, with Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, and Bruno Fernandes the prime candidates for the centre-forward role.
Kobbie Mainoo’s excellent display as a No 10 away to FCSB, when he scored and assisted for the first time in his career, presumably encouraged Amorim to try him in an even more advanced position.
It was quite the statement about his faith in Hojlund and Zirkzee, and possibly a point being made about the need for attacking reinforcements, in this window and beyond...
