Since June 2023, we have been running Op Pedalfast, an ongoing dedicated policing operation focused on engaging with users of illegal/modified e-scooters and e-bikes that do not conform to EPAC regulations. This is in response to community safety concerns raised around the use of e-scooters and e-bikes being ridden through the city.
When an e-scooter or e-bike is found to be illegal (not conforming to EPAC regulations), riders are educated and issued a warning. The warning is logged on force systems so that if these riders are stopped a second time, officers can initiate the next stage of the approach and seize the vehicle.
This week, our City team stopped 57 riders.
- 29 riders were compliant and were allowed to continue their journey.
- 17 riders had their vehicle seized.
- 11 riders with e-bikes which did not conform to legislation had their vehicle seized.
