This is a popular street-style recipe in which idli batter is poured over a spicy tomato onion masala and steamed.
It is a lip-smacking snack breakfast meal recipe. It is typically loaded with all the spices and hence does not require any additional sides to it but tastes great with a simple hotel-style coconut coriander chutney.
Since the idli is made on the Spot, instantly, without access to idli stand or steaming process, it carries the name of spot idli.
This dish requires no idli mold and comes together in under 15 minutes using simple ingredients.
Layers:
Tomato Onion Chutney
Idli Batter – You can either use homemade Idli batter or store-bought one.
Coriander Coconut Chutney
Tadka
Coriander Coconut Chutney:
1 Cup Coriander Leaves
100g Fresh Coconut
2 Tbsp Roasted Chana
2 Green Chillies
1 inch Ginger
Salt to taste
30ml water
Instructions: Just blend everything together.
Tomato Onion Chutney:
1 Tbsp Oil
4 Tomatoes
1 Onion
2 Garlic Pod
1 inch Ginger
2-3 Dry Red Chillies
Salt to taste
Red Chilli Powder
Instructions: In a pan, sauté all the ingredients and let cook covered for 10 Minutes. Let cool and blend.
Tadka:
1 Tbsp Oil
1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
Dry Red Chillies
Curry Leaves
