*DOUBLE LIFE SENTENCES FOR MURDERERS📰* *Kwekwe News Bulletin* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vadb1KKIiRoom1e73h2t Date February, 08, 2025 *Freedom Mupanedemo, Midlands Bureau* In a serious case, High Court Judge Pisirai Kwenda has handed down *double life sentences* to two men after they were found guilty of *murdering two individuals* in Mbizo on the night of May 16, 2023. The *two men*, Edson Matarise from Gwetu Village and Nyashadzashe Nyahuma from Mvuma, ambushed their victims as they were returning home at night. They brutally attacked and killed *Lovemore Marume* and *Chipo Gobiye* near Ruvimbo Primary School. Judge Kwenda, who was overseeing the case in Gokwe, declared the men guilty of *two counts of murder with intent*. A third man, Edmore Mpande, was found *not guilty*. During the sentencing, Justice Kwenda emphasized that these murders were carefully planned. He pointed out that the evidence clearly showed Matarise and Nyahuma intended to kill the victims, especially since both Marume and Gobiye attempted to escape during the attack. He stated, “This was a *gruesome murder*, deserving of life imprisonment. If the death penalty were still in place, this case would certainly qualify for it. Individuals like these must be locked away for life to keep the public safe.” Prosecutor Mr. Salome Mavunganidze recounted the events of that fateful night. Around *8:30 PM*, Marume was walking home from a tuck shop after picking up his *public address (PA) system* rented by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. As he neared Ruvimbo Primary School, Matarise and Nyahuma, along with two accomplices who are still on the run, confronted him and demanded his belongings. When Marume refused, Matarise stabbed him several times in the back and chest, resulting in his death. The attackers then rifled through Marume's belongings, stealing a *Techno cellphone*, a *black amplifier*, a *brown wallet*, and *US$50 in cash*. Matarise kept the cellphone while the others divided the rest of the loot. In the second murder, they killed Gobiye after she tried to stop them from attacking Marume. She was walking with Kimberly Bhuka towards Mbizo 4 when they assaulted her. Gobiye's body was found the next morning by Martha Kalulu, who promptly reported it to the police. A post-mortem examination confirmed that both victims died from injuries sustained in the attacks.
