*KWEKWE MAKES PROGRESS ON KEY PROJECTS📰* *Source:* The Times KWEKWE City Council is working hard to improve the lives of its residents through road rehabilitation, water supply, and clearing of illegal dumpsites, according to Mayor, Councilor, Albert Zinhanga. In a recent update, Kwekwe Mayor Albert Zinhanga highlighted the council's progress on several key initiatives. One of the flagship projects is the road rehabilitation exercise, which has been ongoing for two months. The programme started in Ward 1 and is now in Ward 11, with the council targeting to complete the project by the end of June. After completing all wards, the council will revisit Ward 1 to finish any remaining roads. Of the work done to date, Mayor Zinhanga said: "As Kwekwe City Council we are satisfied with the work on the roads they have completed." The council is committed to ensuring that all roads in the city are in good condition. On the water supply situation, the Mayor reported that the council is supplying water to all areas, although there have been a few bursts that have been attended to. The council quickly addressed reports of worms in the water in Ward 12, Mbizo 10 area, and lab tests confirmed that the water is safe for consumption. "The water supply situation is stable across the town at the moment; we have encountered few bursts and have been attended to. Two weeks ago, we had reports of worms in water in Ward 12, Mbizo 10 area. The issue was looked into, the water was tested, and the results showed that the water is clean and safe for residents to drink. The worms spilled in through the water valve as the valve was being repaired. We are now working on water supply challenges in Amaveni W section," he said. The local authority is also working on several initiatives to improve water supply in specific areas. In Mbizo 15, the council is resuscitating all boreholes to be solar-powered, having already repaired existing boreholes and purchased the necessary solar equipment. The council is also exploring connecting water pipelines via the Kwekwe Polytechnic College side to address the long-lasting solution to water challenges in the area. "We have started upgrading boreholes in Mbizo 15, making sure that all the existing boreholes have been resuscitated. We have completed the repairs on boreholes and bought the solar equipment needed for the boreholes. We are looking at connecting Mbizo 15 water pipeline network from the Kwekwe Polytechnic side to see if we can navigate the problems residents are facing on water. The water situation needs to improve." Kwekwe City Council has started a refuse dump removal programme aimed at clearing all dumps in an effort to maintain a clean and healthy environment for its residents. Mayor Zinhanga said, “80 percent of the dumps have been cleared, and I am satisfied with the progress." *Kwekwe News Bulletin* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vadb1KKIiRoom1e73h2t
