_*War Veterans Opposing “ED 2030” Will Be Silenced Forever: Mahiya Issues Chilling Threat*_
ZANU PF Secretary for War Veterans, Douglas Mahiya, warned war veterans opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extended rule that they could be silenced indefinitely, reported CITE.
His remarks were aimed at Blessed Runesu Geza and other veterans critical of Mnangagwa’s leadership, citing issues like corruption and cronyism. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a manhunt for Geza, who faces criminal charges, including theft, undermining the authority of the President and incitement to violence.
Mahiya also claimed that had Mnangagwa been less principled, ZANU PF could have declared a state of emergency to extend his rule, citing the sanctions imposed on the country as akin to a declaration of war by Western powers.
Mahiya made comments during the launch of a War Veterans Fund and empowerment programme in Bulawayo on Saturday. Said Mahiya:
We were sanctioned by the West. That’s a sign that we are in a war. When a country has sanctions, when people are in a war, they can stop going for elections because they are in a war and declare a state of emergency.
Mnangagwa is a proper, listening, educated leader, but if the country was under someone else, we could have declared that ‘we are in a state of emergency and there are no elections.’ Then we would remove Mnangagwa from power only if he died…
The leadership we want is not one of a person who is highly educated or who has a character that we don’t know.
We want a leader who has a character and hunhu that we know, and that has been shown by Mnangagwa in the period that he has been running the country. He can extend his term so that the population can benefit.
So if you refuse, we have the right, although forbidden by the law, to act otherwise to stop you indefinitely from saying such things. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Mahiya warned war veterans not to believe that their participation in the liberation struggle grants them the authority to oppose plans to extend Mnangagwa’s term, especially when the majority support it. He said:
It doesn’t give you power, if you do not follow what people want, your going to Zambia and being a war veteran will be useless. You won’t have standing because you are ganging against the people.
I don’t expect, as the secretary of war veterans, to hear any other war veteran say the opposite because the party’s constitution says our duty as the league is to protect the interests of the party and its leadership, which is the resolution that was made here in Bulawayo. That is the interest of the party, and we also protect the leadership.
A resolution from the ZANU PF National People’s Conference in Bulawayo last year called for amending the Constitution to extend Mnangagwa’s second and final term until 2030.
_*Zanu PF factional war: Police Hunt For Geza; Say He Faces Theft, Incitement Of Public Violence, Insulting President Charges*_
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said it wants to question Blessing Runesu Geza, the outspoken war veteran opposing the “2030 agenda” who faces four counts of criminal charges.
The charges include vehicle theft, undermining President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and inciting public violence.
Geza, known as Bombshell, has been something of a thorn in the President’s side.
This development follows a series of press conferences held by Geza and a group of Zanu PF war veterans, where they called for Mnangagwa’s resignation. They accuse the Zanu-PF leader of overseeing rampant corruption and nepotism, and of plotting to extend his term beyond the constitutionally mandated limit.
Geza also turned his fire on the First Lady, Auxilia Mnangagwa, accusing her of wasting state resources on what he deems unnecessary tours around the country. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Constitutional experts such as Professor Lovemore Madhuku have long maintained that such a term extension is legally impossible.
While Mnangagwa himself has publicly pledged to step down at the end of his term in 2028, critics warn that this is simply his modus operandi – giving the impression of heading one way while veering sharply in another.
They point to his continued silence on the matter, failing to quash those who advocate for a term extension, as further evidence.
Mnangagwa’s term concludes in 2028, yet some of his allies and party members persist in calling for him to remain in power until 2030.

- Mnangagwa is a failure and must go now, his 2030 agenda is illegal and treacherous— say war veterans miffed by rampant corruption
Geza, a Zanu-PF Central Committee member, delivered his most recent press conference on Monday, urging Zimbabweans to prepare for a national shutdown as calls for Mnangagwa’s resignation grow louder, the tide is turning with the public.
“We implore you to resign peacefully. If you don’t resign in peace, people will use the constitution to exercise their right to push you out of office,” Geza said.
Geza also warned the police that if they dared to beat or shoot demonstrators protesting against Mnangagwa, the public would hold them accountable in their own neighbourhoods.
In response, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement on Wednesday, asserting that Geza faces charges of insulting Mnangagwa and inciting public violence.
“Theft allegations as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9: 23. The suspect stole and disposed of three vehicles belonging to a complainant without his consent.”
“He is also facing two counts of contravening Section 33 (2) (a) (ii) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9: 23, ‘Undermining the Authority of or insulting the President,'” Nyathi’s statement reads. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Commissioner Nyathi further stated that Geza had incited the public to commit violence, violating the Criminal Code and Reform Act.
“One count of contravening Section 187 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23, ‘Incitement to commit public violence,” Nyathi said.
Nyathi also cautioned that anyone found harbouring Geza or assisting him in evading police questioning would be equally liable for arrest and prosecution.
_*ZRP Splits Into 2 Forces Another Led By Blessed Geza As ED Removal Seemingly Draws Near*_
The Zimbabwe Republic Force has virtually split into two police forces as the state launched a hunt for the spokesman of the Zimbabwe Liberators Platform, Blessed Geza.
Yesterday, Geza announced instructions that officers will not hinder protesters campaigning against the Mnangagwa-2030 presidency agenda through which some ZANU PF MPs are seeking to change the constitution and cancel 2028 elections.
According to a ZRP statement, the law enforcement agents are seeking the whereabouts of vocal war veteran, Blessed Geza Runesu. They are appealing to the public to help assist in his arrest.
The police have revealed that Geza is facing 4 accounts of criminal charges, one of which includes undermining the authority and insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The ZRP warned anyone harbouring Geza that they risk being arrested for being accomplices.
Arresting or even merely harassing Geza is bound to trigger Mnangagwa’s removal. Changing the constitution will make things worse and a military statement released through informal channels is clear that the army has case law entitlement to remove any president at any time.
As a result, Geza’s law enforcement statement carries more effectual authority than the ZRP spokesman’s.

_*CIO advises Mnangagwa to resign, says Cde Never Maswerasei*_
Former military intelligence officer Never Maswerasei says the country’s security apparatus has advised President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to step down to avoid humiliation.
Through one of his X handles, International Cables Network, Maswerasei who is a former military intelligence officer says
Zimbabwe Exclusive 🇿🇼 | Category 1 security detail at hand is that the deep state and security apparatus have now formally advised Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign peacefully and avoid the public humiliation that would come with any attempted resistance, a development that shook him to the core. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Mnangagwa has since communicated the message to his family and his closest allies who have been the loudest in pushing for constitutional amendment to enable him to be in power up to 2033.
His sons are understood to be now preparing to leave Zimbabwe before his exit.
The latest developments triggered by pressers by the respected Geza-led contingent of senior war veterans have rattled the entire dynasty cabal whose prepaid lapdogs and functionaries have started going quiet.
With reality kicking-in – and fast – many ZANU PF senior members are reported to be now stampeding for accommodation in the Chiwenga faction.
Led by Geza, war veterans and deep state power brokers are now waiting for feedback on when Mnangagwa will be tendering his resignation.
Failure to comply with the directive will lead to an altimatum being given, which will then be followed by the opening of mass protests floodgates on the streets.
_*Zimbabwe isn’t yet ready for a sole currency, finance chief says*_
Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said the southern African nation needs to regain access to credit lines before it can adopt the ZiG as its sole currency.
“We need a few things in place” before the nation can have a mono currency, including making progress on restructuring $21 billion in debt, Ncube said. The nation has been locked out of capital markets since 1999 after defaulting on its debt. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
“Clearing the arrears would allow us to access balance of payments support,” in terms of credit lines to support Zimbabwe’s reserve position, deal with demand by importers and defend the currency, Ncube said.
The ZiG, short for Zimbabwe Gold, was introduced in April to replace the dollar as the nation’s main transacting currency, after several previous attempts failed.
The new currency has faced setbacks including a 43% devaluation in September and calls for it to be abandoned.
To support the currency the central bank has spent more than $400 million and significantly tightened liquidity.
An International Monetary Fund team is in the country until February 13 to determine whether to place Zimbabwe on a so-called “staff-monitored program,” a crucial to for the nation to secure a debt overhaul.

Chivayo praised Tagwirei, calling him “a businessman of unquestionable integrity, a mentor, a role model, and a beacon of hope to many… businessmen”.
He further claimed that Tagwirei’s commitment to ethical business practices and his dedication to empowering others, especially the youth, made him a standout figure in the business community.
Both Chivayo and Tagwirei are known for their close ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Added Chivayo:

I hope you will accept this gift as my small token of appreciation and as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude for the impact you have had one my life and countless others.
Critics argue that Tagwirei’s close relationships with influential political figures, including Mnangagwa have allowed him to secure lucrative government contracts and gain unfair advantages in business dealings.
Tagwirei has faced sanctions from the US and UK for alleged corruption ties. His involvement in various sectors, such as mining, energy, and agriculture, has been scrutinized for potential cronyism and unethical practices.
Tagwirei’s business empire includes significant holdings in companies like Kuvimba Mining House, which consolidated state-owned assets under his control.
Despite the controversies, Tagwirei’s companies have been involved in various philanthropic activities, including donations to schools, and hospitals, sponsoring football clubs (Dynamos and Highlanders) and community projects.
_*Eyes In The Sky: ZIMRA Leverages Drone Technology To Combat Smuggling*_
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) says the use of drones is a game-changer in the fight against smuggling and illegal border crossings along Zimbabwe’s border with South Africa. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
This comes after ZIMRA, working with other border agencies, successfully intercepted and destroyed 21 boats and 20 paddles used for smuggling contraband across the Limpopo River on Tuesday.
The majority of these boats were located with the help of drone surveillance technology.
In a statement, ZIMRA Commissioner General Regina Chinamasa said the operation involved ZIMRA’s elite Drone Operations Team, Customs Officers, and other border security personnel who patrolled key smuggling hotspots.
The drones provided real-time aerial intelligence, enabling the swift interception and destruction of smuggling infrastructure.
She also said the drones have revolutionized border security by offering unmatched aerial surveillance capabilities, making it possible to track smugglers in real-time, even in previously hard-to-reach remote areas.
Equipped with night vision and high-resolution cameras, the drones have been crucial in identifying illegal crossing points and uncovering extensive smuggling networks. Said Chinamasa:
This is a game-changer in our fight against smuggling. The use of drones has allowed us to detect smuggling activities with precision and speed, ensuring that illicit goods never make it into the market,” said the Commissioner General.
Smuggling is not just about tax evasion—it’s an attack on Zimbabwe’s economy, local industries, and the safety of our communities.
Through this collaborative approach, we are sending a strong message: Zimbabwe’s borders will not be a playground for criminals.
Chinamasa said the operation focused on five key smuggling routes, known as Valley 1 & 2, Proof, Godfather, and Thembani.
Surveillance teams discovered several inflatable boats positioned on both the South African and Zimbabwean sides of the border. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. These boats, along with vehicles and donkey-drawn carts, were ready to transport smuggled goods across the border.
She underscored that such smuggling activities harm local businesses by flooding the market with untaxed goods, hurting Zimbabwean manufacturers, and depriving the government of vital revenue needed for public services.
Chinamasa assured that ZIMRA will continue to strengthen its efforts by increasing drone patrols, working closely with other security agencies, and using advanced technology, like AI and night-time surveillance, to track down smugglers and stop their operations.
_*Zimbabwe’s foreign currency inflows soar to US$13.3bn*_
The country’s foreign currency inflows surged by 21 percent in 2024, reaching $13.3 billion, up from $11 billion the previous year, reports Zimbabwe Economic Review.
This growth was largely attributed to increased export proceeds, with mineral exports dominating.
Gold exports alone jumped by 37% to $2.5 billion, benefiting from record-high production of 36.5 tonnes and favorable global prices, which peaked at $2,700 per ounce in October 2024.
This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Key Forex Contributors:
🔹 Exports: $7.9B (59.2% of total inflows)
🔹 Diaspora Remittances: $2.2B (16% of total inflows)
🔹 Gold Exports: $2.5B (+37% YoY)
🔹 Mineral Exports: $5.9B (+7.8% YoY)
The strong forex inflows have improved Zimbabwe’s current account, resulting in a surplus of $501.2 million in 2024, up from $133.9 million in 2023.
With the government targeting 40 tonnes of gold production in 2025, Zimbabwe’s economy is on a promising trajectory for further growth.
_*Zimbabwe's power deficit rises to 1,560 megawatts*_
Zimbabwe is grappling with a worsening power crisis, with the country's electricity deficit now standing at a staggering 1,560 megawatts (MW), according to a new report from Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Energy and Power Development.
The report highlights the severe electricity shortages, revealing that Zimbabwe's installed generation capacity stands at 2,570 MW, but the country is only able to generate 1,079 MW. This mismatch between capacity and actual generation continues to strain the national grid, with no immediate solution in sight.
"Zesa management highlighted that Zimbabwe is still facing serious power outages because the distribution supply of electricity is not meeting the nation's demand," the committee noted in the report. Despite functioning transmission and distribution lines, the country's power plants are operating below optimal capacity, leading to widespread load shedding.
The committee pointed out that the Kariba South Power Station (KSPS) is currently producing just 250 MW, while Hwange Power Station contributes 750 MW, and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) provide a further 69 MW, making a total of only 1,079 MW. This is significantly lower than the country's demand, which ranges from 1,500 MW to 2,350 MW.
_*Edmund Kudzayi Responds to Kenneth Sharpe’s Allegations, Exposes Alleged Corruption*_
Investigative journalist Edmund Kudzayi has issued a detailed statement refuting allegations of extortion made by businessman Kenneth Sharpe, accusing Sharpe of fabricating claims to silence his ongoing exposé into alleged corruption and misuse of state institutions.
In a statement released on February 12, 2025, Kudzayi dismissed Sharpe’s accusations as “absurd and baseless,” asserting that a USD 24,344 payment made over a year ago was for legitimate professional services and not, as Sharpe claims, a result of extortion.
“These claims are not only absurd and baseless but are transparently calculated to undermine my credibility and obstruct my ongoing investigative series exposing Mr Sharpe’s alleged misuse of state institutions, corrupt legal manoeuvres, and extraordinary record of 40 uninterrupted court victories—a record that warrants closer scrutiny,” Kudzayi stated.
This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
A Record That Defies Credulity
Central to Kudzayi’s investigation is Sharpe’s alleged manipulation of Zimbabwe’s legal system, including the use of defunct entities like Augur Investments OU to secure court victories. “My series interrogates how dissolved entities like Augur Investments OU—which ceased to exist in 2021—have been fraudulently used to litigate cases, securing judgments for non-existent entities,” Kudzayi explained.
The Truth About the Payment
Kudzayi provided a timeline of events, revealing that the USD 24,344 payment was part of a settlement for professional services rendered in 2022. He accused Sharpe of attempting to tie the payment to a demand for silence, a move Kudzayi described as unethical.
“By signing the agreement, I allowed Mr Sharpe to believe he had secured my silence. Perhaps my gravest misstep—the sin for which I am now being punished—is that I let him bask in this illusion of victory,” Kudzayi wrote. He added that Sharpe’s lawyers later demanded a refund of the payment, contradicting their extortion claim. “Since when do extortionists issue refunds? Refunds are issued for legitimate business transactions, not for coerced payments.”
Retaliation and Fabricated Claims
Kudzayi accused Sharpe of pivoting from a civil dispute to criminal allegations after failing to secure his silence. He also denied introducing Sharpe to any business partners, calling the claim “an outrage.”
“The police, had they not been compromised, would dismiss such a flimsy charge outright,” Kudzayi stated, alleging that Sharpe has weaponized corrupt elements within the police to fabricate cases against critics.
Abuse of Institutions
Kudzayi further accused Sharpe of manipulating state institutions, including the police and media, to silence dissent. He highlighted how certain media outlets, including ZBC and The Herald, repeated unverified claims without seeking his comment.
“This selective reporting is central to Mr Sharpe’s playbook: monopolise the narrative before any contradictory information emerges,” Kudzayi said.
Commitment to Transparency
Despite the allegations, Kudzayi vowed to continue his investigative series, which aims to expose systemic corruption and amplify the voices of Sharpe’s alleged victims.
“I will not be silenced. My investigative series will continue to expose the truth, regardless of the consequences,” Kudzayi declared.
The statement includes attachments such as transcripts of communications and legal correspondence, which Kudzayi says will further expose Sharpe’s alleged misconduct.
_*Tshabangu attends disciplinary hearing called by Welshman Ncube*_
Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu has reversed his earlier decision not to attend the disciplinary hearing called by party leader Welshman Ncube. Tshabangu had initially stated that he would not appear before the hearing, citing ongoing court cases. However, he made a U-turn on Wednesday and confirmed his participation.
Tshabangu was summoned by Ncube after he made unilateral changes to the composition of parliamentary committees led by the opposition party and demoted legislators aligned with Ncube. These actions reportedly led to tensions within the party, prompting the call for the disciplinary hearing.
In a statement to the press, Tshabangu's spokesperson, Nqobizitha Mlilo, expressed strong disapproval of the hearing, describing it as a "sham kangaroo court" orchestrated by Ncube with the support of his allies from the MDC-Green faction. Mlilo further stated that Tshabangu had not been provided with a charge sheet, was unaware of the allegations against him, and did not know who his accusers were or what evidence they held.
"Senator Tshabangu, CCC's leader of the opposition in Parliament, will today appear at a purported hearing to respond to undisclosed charges before a patently illegal setup that has all the trappings of a sham kangaroo court that is in pursuit of a highly personalised and a manifestly malicious agenda whose only purpose is clearly to destabilise the party," Mlilo said.
Tshabangu also criticized the appointment of the disciplinary committee, arguing that the individuals selected were friends of Ncube and lacked the legal authority to carry out such proceedings. He claimed that the national disciplinary committee appointed by Ncube in October 2024 had no power over him or any CCC member due to the expiration of terms for most of the party's organs.
"There is no - and there can be no - legally valid national disciplinary committee constituted in terms of the constitution of the party. This is because the terms of office of all Article 6 organs of the party, save the party parliamentary caucus and the local government caucus, expired on 27 May 2024," Mlilo said.
Tshabangu expressed concern that the internal party dispute was causing unnecessary distraction and undermining CCC's focus on its work in the national interest. He suggested that he might use his influence over the party's parliamentary and local government caucuses, which consist of his appointees, to take action against Ncube.
The outcome of the disciplinary hearing remains unknown, and tensions within the party continue to simmer as the dispute escalates.
_*Mnangagwa admits Zimbabwe’s ‘inconsistent’ policies scare investors*_
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has acknowledged that the country’s policies hinder investment, emphasising the need to “revisit” and address these obstacles.
Speaking at the first cabinet session of the year at State House, Mnangagwa stressed that enhancing the ease of doing business is crucial for improving the economy’s overall performance. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Mnangagwa noted that concerted efforts are necessary to identify and tackle areas that impede the growth of local and foreign investments.
“To enhance the overall performance of our economy, the ease of doing business agenda continues to be an important aspect of our programing,” Mnangagwa stated.
“In that regard concerted efforts must be made to revisit all the areas that hinder the start or growth of all investments, whether local or foreign.”
Zimbabwe has experienced severe hyperinflation in the past two decades, which has eroded the value of investments. The country has a history of currency fluctuations, making it challenging for investors to predict returns.
Frequent changes in fiscal policies have also created uncertainty for investors. Policy changes and inconsistencies have created uncertainty for investors.
Zimbabwe has experienced periods of political instability, including elections-related violence.
Zimbabwe’s infrastructure, including roads, railways, and energy systems, is also in need of massive upgrading and maintenance.
The country experiences frequent energy shortages, which disrupt business operations.
These are some of the reasons that have turned investors away from Zimbabwe.
Prominent banker Nigel Chanakira, who is also a former Zimbabwe Investment Authority chairperson, recently stated that Zimbabwe’s political risk premium was too high.
“Investors want to see that stability. In terms of macroeconomic stability,” he said.
“If we can have that, then we can have global capital complementing domestic capital. I want to point out one thing, the political risk premium that is attached to Zimbabwe renders us less competitive compared to other nations.
“So, our domestic players, in terms of being able to go out and punch, in the wait category and to be able to scale up and export just into the neighbouring countries is where we are found wanting.”
Addressing cabinet, Mnangagwa also underscored the importance of engaging with the public, listening to their concerns, and responding to their needs.
He stated that the government’s collective efforts should focus on creating a better future for all citizens, leaving no one behind.
The Zanu-PF leader highlighted the need to foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence within government ministries.
_*13-year-old girl kidnapped by her friend and the friend’s mother, forced to have sex with multiple men at Murambinda Growth Point for 2 weeks*_
Buhera – A 13-year-old girl from Buhera was allegedly kidnapped by her friend and the friend’s mother and forced into prostitution, where she was repeatedly raped by numerous men without protection, with the two accused profiting from the exploitation.
Lisa Gosho (19) and her mother, Nyaradzai Chitsamba (38), appeared before Rusape regional magistrate, Mr Francis Mapfumo, facing charges of kidnapping under Section 93(1) (b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The charge relates to unlawfully depriving a person of their freedom and the opportunity to move freely.
The two accused were denied bail and will return to court soon.
Prosecutor Event Dhliwayo presented the harrowing details of the case to the court, explaining how Gosho lured the child to her mother’s house under the pretext of collecting mangoes. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
The girl was then allegedly held captive for 12 days, forced into prostitution, and only allowed out to meet various men who repeatedly raped her at Murambinda Town Centre.
“The case of the missing child was reported by her guardian on 4 January this year at ZRP Murambinda. Lisa Gosho and the complainant are friends, and Nyaradzai Chitsamba is Gosho’s mother. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
“On 3 January at 11am at Murambinda Town Centre, Gosho approached the complainant, who was playing with her friends, and asked her to accompany her to her home to collect mangoes. The child, who suspected nothing, agreed, and upon arrival, she introduced her to Chitsamba as her friend.
“That evening, Gosho took the complainant to a single-roomed house in Jaru township, where she locked her in and prevented her from going home, subsequently hiring various men who took turns raping her without protection, with her (Gosho) receiving payment,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
It is alleged that the following day, the child was taken to another township near Murambinda Town Centre, where she was again raped by numerous men.
“Chitsamba locked the child in the house, only providing her with a bucket to use as a toilet and only letting her out at night. The child was unable to see any neighbours. Gosho would take the child at night to Murambinda Town Centre, where she forced her to have sex with various men. After they returned, Gosho would lock the child in the house,” she said.
The case reportedly came to light on 15 January when her guardian was tipped off that she had been seen in Dave’s township and subsequently assisted the police in searching for her.
Upon arrival at the location, they encountered Chitsamba, who denied ever meeting the child.
“Despite Chitsamba’s denial, the police proceeded to search the house and found the complainant hidden behind a door in the kitchen,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
The child was rescued and taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for treatment.
Medical examinations confirmed that she had been sexually abused.
_*ZCC bishop flogs two congregants, one dies during ‘healing’ session*_
A 36-year-old ZCC Damsko bishop has been convicted for flogging and killing a church congregant after claiming that she and her husband were mentally ill.
The woman died due to the injuries she sustained while her husband sustained severe injuries. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
Crispen Gomori of Limpopo View in Beitbridge was convicted on Tuesday after appearing before Beitbridge resident magistrate, Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba.
Gomori said he administered seven strokes on his male victim as a way of ‘healing’ him as he was ‘losing his mind’.
In his defence, Gomori had argued that the couple agreed to the flogging since they are members of his church.
In aggravation, the State led by Mr Tawanda Chigavazira argued that even if the couple had agreed to being flogged, the assault was severe.
However, for the assault charge Gomori was cautioned and discharged after the court felt that he had suffered a misconception of religious laws.
The court heard that on March 6, 2023, at around 12 pm, the complainant and his wife went to church.
Upon arrival at the shrine, fellow congregants were instructed by Gomori to shackle the complainant and his wife to a tree with chains.
Gomori was claiming that the two were mentally ill.
The complainant and his wife spent the whole night tied to the tree until 8pm the next day when Gomori started assaulting them with a leather whip until the woman died at 4am.
Upon realising that the woman had died, Gomori fled from the shrine.
A police report was made, leading to Gomori’s arrest.
His male victim was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital for treatment while the woman’s body was taken to the same hospital for a post-mortem. Herald
_*Horn with fur, chimpanzee skull, monkey face: Zimra hires sangoma Sekuru Fabiano to cleanse seized ‘zvikwambo’ at Beitbridge border*_
Beitbridge – In a scene more akin to a fantastical tale than a modern government operation, a traditional healer was summoned to the newly upgraded Beitbridge Border Post to cleanse a warehouse believed to be tainted by seized occult items.
Nkosana Madoka, known within traditional healing circles as Sekuru Fabiano, was invited to the multi-million dollar border post to neutralise a collection of ornaments believed to be traditional tools used to cast bad spells. These items were among goods confiscated by Customs and Excise officers, raising concerns about their potential malevolent influence.
The strange and unsettling items, numbering seven in total, included a horn with fur, a chimpanzee skull, a red, white, and black beaded small loaded cloth bag, a dried monkey face, a plate full of what appeared like animal fat, a blueish little bag that appeared to be breathing, and a broken clay pot. The presence of these items within a government facility prompted the unusual step of calling upon a traditional healer to perform a cleansing ritual, highlighting the intersection of traditional beliefs and modern governance in Zimbabwe.
Zimborders general Manager Nqobile Ncube, whose company built and will maintain the border for 17 years from the time it was commissioned, promised to investigate and revert to us but was yet to respond by the time of going to the Press.
Other officials including those from Immigration, a contracted security organisation and other State agents did not offer meaningful explanations.
Zimra spokesperson Gladman Njanji referred questions to ZRP in Beitbridge. “Zimra has a clear mandate at all ports of entry, which includes facilitating legitimate trade and travel and protecting civil society. For security matters, please contact the ZRP Beitbridge,” he said.
Last Thursday, in broad daylight, Sekuru Fabiano entered the border post through the passenger terminal, passing through the police post as he strode the length of the complex. Dressed in white decorated trousers and a tracksuit top, with traditional healer’s attire strapped around his body, beads hanging from his neck, and a female hat with an animal skin sewn to it adorning his head, Sekuru Fabiano moved with purpose. Unidentified people walking next to him struggled to keep pace.
After entering through the departure side as if South Africa bound, he turned on the exit towards the commercial warehouse section.
NewsDay crew arrived on time to see him rush towards the bay at the warehouse where the ornaments commonly referred to as “zvikwambo” were.
Sekuru Fabiano murmured a few words to the ornaments and declared them weakened. He then paced away, without talking as a small gathering of Customs and Excise officers, shipping agents and security guards followed at a distance.
When asked by NewsDay about his purpose, he turned and bellowed that someone was disappointed after their goods were confiscated. “They were trying to get rich and now are dissatisfied with what officials did. The ornaments are trying to harm them but I have neutralised them. They can now destroy these ornaments, they are weak,” he said.
Sekuru Fabiano then addressed the small gathering, declaring, “I am now going to finish this. These magic tools will not work, they are a lie that is why I am here. I have the 10 commandments here and I have spoken to it. Go and do as I say,” while pointing his beaded miniature knobkerrie into the sky.
He claimed he had been invited by Zimra to cleanse the area as the “children” (employees) were now afraid to work.
Shortly after Sekuru Fabiano’s departure, security personnel carried the seized occult items to a designated area, doused them in flammable liquid, and set them alight, effectively destroying the objects.
The incident comes as the government has set up a national task force against smuggling, including Zimra officials and other security agencies. The team has been intercepting smugglers and confiscating goods worth millions of United States dollars that have filled up government warehouses across the country. Officers involved in the operation ambush vehicles along roads leading from border posts and seize goods deemed smuggled.
_*’We Have Increased Card Limit To US$1 Million’ – RBZ Governor Encourages Zimbabweans To Bank Their Cash*_
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has announced a major increase in the limit on bank cards to US$1 million, urging Zimbabweans to take advantage of the banking system instead of keeping large sums of cash.
Announcing the 2025 Monetary Policy Statement, RBZ Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu emphasised that the increased limit would provide a safer and more convenient way for businesses and individuals to manage their money.
US$1 Million Card Limit Introduced
Dr Mushayavanhu highlighted the risks of keeping large amounts of cash and urged people to embrace digital and banking solutions. According to ZBC News, the RBZ governor,
“The issue here is that robbers were waylaying buses, especially cross-border traders, and robbing them of their cash. So there is no need to keep cash, given that one can just upload their money into a card, which we have increased to US$1 million.”
He stressed that the higher limit allows businesses and individuals to transact seamlessly without worrying about security risks.
Encouraging Digital Transactions And Banking
The governor assured Zimbabweans that banking money instead of hoarding it would reduce financial risks and contribute to economic stability.
“We have also adjusted interest on savings accounts, which we think makes huge sense for one to bank their savings.”
He called on businesses, particularly manufacturers supplying goods to the informal market, to make use of the banking system instead of storing money in cash boxes.
“There are manufacturers who are supplying goods to the informal market but are not banking their proceeds. They are keeping these monies in their cash boxes, which is not in line with the Anti-Money Laundering Act. The FIU will not just watch and will dismantle this practice.”
Strengthening The Financial System
As part of efforts to boost confidence in the banking sector, the RBZ has implemented measures to encourage deposits and digital transactions. The US$1 million card limit is one of several initiatives aimed at making financial transactions more secure and efficient.
Dr Mushayavanhu reiterated that Zimbabweans should utilise formal banking channels to ensure their funds are secure and to contribute to the overall growth of the economy.
“This move is designed to enhance financial inclusion, promote savings, and create a more stable financial system.”
The RBZ continues to urge individuals and businesses to take advantage of these policies to ensure safer and more efficient financial management.

_*Can Everton upset Liverpool in last derby at Goodison Park?*_
The distance between Everton's iconic stadium, Goodison Park, and Liverpool's Anfield home measures at little more than half a mile.
Separated only by Stanley Park -- where Everton played during the club's formative years -- Merseyside's footballing giants have spent more than a century as neighbours, bonded by a sense of territorial kinship, even as the fortunes of the two clubs have veered in drastically different directions.
Change, however, is on the horizon, with Everton set to move to their state-of-the-art new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. It is for that reason that Wednesday night's Merseyside derby -- the 245th meeting between the two sides and the last in the league at Goodison Park -- feels particularly significant, with anticipation for the clash having only been heightened by December's postponement due to Storm Darragh. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Liverpool are top of the Premier League table and could open up a nine-point advantage at the summit with a victory over their city rivals. Everton, meanwhile, have endured a turbulent campaign thus far, sacking manager Sean Dyche last month after a torrid run had left the club just one point above the relegation zone.
The return of David Moyes, who previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, has helped to steady the ship, though the gulf in quality between the Blues and Arne Slot's side remains stark. But, as the old cliché goes, the form book goes out of the window on derby day and, with Wednesday's result set to be eternally preserved in the history books, both teams will be looking to make Goodison's derby farewell a memorable one.
When legendary Portugal striker Eusébio returned to Goodison -- where he had scored six goals across two games at the 1966 World Cup -- he made no secret of his admiration for the place. Appearing on the pitch ahead of Everton's Europa League clash with Benfica in 2009, he said: "Today for me, for my family, it's a good day, for Benfica to play here. This stadium for me is the best stadium in my playing life."
For Everton fans, Goodison is and will forever be the club's spiritual home. Having spent close to a decade playing at Anfield in the late 19th century, the Blues relocated in 1892 following a dispute with land-owner John Houlding -- who subsequently went on to form a rival team: Liverpool Football Club.
With Liverpool's inception having been born from acrimony, it is perhaps little wonder that the relationship between the two city rivals has always carried an extra edge. But, over the past 134 years, Goodison has become an institution in its own right, playing host to some of the world's greatest players, from Pelé to Franz Beckenbauer.
"It is a kind of a 'Last of the Mohicans,'" actor and lifelong Evertonian Andrew Gower tells ESPN. "If those walls could speak, they would tell you tales of Pelé and Eusébio, and of titles and relegations.
"It also speaks on behalf of the community. I grew up around Goodison Park and people have given their lives to the community there. We should be very proud as Evertonians of what goes on and how much goes into the community there."
Gower -- known for TV shows such as "Outlander" and "Being Human" -- was introduced to the title-winning Everton sides of the 1980s by his great-uncles and older brother, and his affinity with Goodison is such that his band, Gustaffson, have released a song in the stadium's honour. Named "Lights Under Goodison," the song is a love letter to the ground and its surrounding areas, written after Alex Iwobi's stoppage-time goal secured Everton an important win over Newcastle United in March 2022.
For Gower, Wednesday night will be particularly special, with Gustaffson set to perform "Lights Under Goodison" live before the game in the stadium's Fan Zone. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production.
"As a band, you don't always want to try and speak on behalf of a fanbase because everybody has their own individual memories and relationship with Goodison Park, but the response from the fans has been incredible," Gower says. "They've welcomed it with open arms.
"When Everton unite as a fanbase, especially at Goodison, I personally feel that there's no other fanbase like us. Sometimes it takes a lot for us to unite but, when we do, as we have done in the last couple of years with back-to-back relegation battles, the scenes at Goodison Park and the collective energy I've felt at that stadium is unmatched.
"I always say imagine if Everton won something again, that united energy would be off the scale. Gary Neville, Gary Lineker -- they all talk about Goodison under the lights and say when the gantry shakes there's nothing like it."
