The incident unfolded when Chidokwani sent Sithole the transport money, but she switched off her phone and didn't arrive as promised. Feeling deceived and emotionally distressed, Chidokwani reported the matter to the authorities, leading to Sithole's arrest and subsequent court appearance. During the trial, Chidokwani presented evidence, including mobile money transfer records and WhatsApp messages, to support his claim.
In her ruling, Magistrate Cynthia Marare ordered Sithole to refund the $2, pay an additional $70 for breach of agreement, and another $33 as special damages for emotional distress. The court emphasized that the ruling aimed to deter others from similar behavior.
Many social media users have expressed shock and amusement at the ruling, with some questioning the proportionality of the fine.
