Today, I finally tackled something that had been on my mind for a while, why do kids repeat the same misbehavior even after being corrected? As a mom of four, I’ve noticed that sometimes, no matter how many times I correct a certain behavior, it somehow finds its way back. Sound familiar? Instead of just reacting, I decided to take a different approach. This evening, I sat down with my kids for a heart-to-heart conversation. No scolding, no lectures, just an open discussion. I asked them why they kept repeating certain behaviors even after being disciplined. At first, they hesitated, but then one by one, they started sharing their thoughts. Their answers surprised me. One of them said, "Mommy, sometimes I forget, and sometimes I just want to see what will happen." Another admitted, "I don’t like being corrected in front of others, so I do it again when I’m alone." That moment reminded me that parenting isn’t just about correcting behaviors, it’s about understanding the why behind them. By the end of our discussion, we all agreed on something new: a monthly heart-to-heart talk. A time when we can openly discuss behaviors, emotions, and lessons learned, without fear of punishment. Parenting is a journey, not a one-time lesson. And if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that intentional conversations create better results than repeated corrections. So, if you’re struggling with your child’s repeated behavior, maybe it’s time for a different approach. Instead of just correcting, try connecting. You might be surprised at what they have to say. #thegracefulparent #parentingwithgrace #raisingchampions #hearttoheartparenting Ccidence Ogu (Raise a Genius Kid Africa Facebook Group)
