The self-proclaimed traditional healer presented fake documents to the local headman who unwittingly validated his claims but the Zinatha Provincial Office said he was not registered with their organization. Contacted for comment by TellZim News, ward 32 Councilor Togarepi Toruvanda confirmed the presence of the Tsikamutanda in the area and said he was not aware of the operations since he came through the headman. “I heard about the Tsikamutanda but I am not involved in his issues because those issues are dealt with by traditional leaders and he came in the area through headman Dzoro,” said Toruvanda. Headman Dzoro born Jephta Ringirai told TellZim News that it was him who allowed the traditional healer to operate saying he was registered and all who claimed he was not registered were simply avoiding scrutiny by the healer. He went on to say all was well with his work and if anything happens he will be ready to share with TellZim News and emphasized that those claiming that he was fake were culprits who do not want to be exposed. “It’s true we have a Tsikamutanda here and everything is going on well, if anything happens I will get in touch with you. He is licensed and those who say he is not are the culprits who do not want to be exposed,” said Dzoro. The Headman seemed to working in cahoots with the Tsikamutandas and insisted that they were registered despite the Zinatha clearly stating he was not registered and was not in their database. However, Zinatha Masvingo Provincial Chairperson Prosper Dohwai said they had received a complaint about the healer and discovered that he was not registered with them saying his certificates were fake. We have a case of that person here, he is using fake papers, he is not registered with us and the case is under investigations,” said Dohwai. He went on to warn traditional leaders against bogus healers whom he said were witch hunters saying it was prudent that when they are approached by traditional healers to enquire from the organization’s offices who can verify their certificates. “I want to emphasize that only our office can verify the authenticity of our members, we urge traditional leaders to exercise caution and verify the credentials of traditional leaders before allowing them to operate in their areas. “We do not allow witch hunters, the procedure is when there is a problem in an area, the village head, headman or chief refer people to us and it’s us who recommend people to help them and in most cases they will be our members from the province, we do not recommend someone from outside,” said Dohwai. According to copies of certificates that TellZim News has in possession, the healer in question is Nehemiah Tamanikwa and the two certificates shows different postal address of the same school. His ZINATHA Identity document indicates that it was issued on January 06 2025 and is valid for one year with a postal address of Rugora School Bag 971 in Gokwe and the nearest Zinatha office is Chiredzi. Another certificate from the Medical Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe issued on 02 February 2025 and is valid for a year a postal address of Rugora Primary School, Bag 697, Gokwe. However, traditional leaders are not registered by the MPCZ showing that the certificates were all fake. One villager who was irked by the presence of the Tsikamutanda in the area and his fake shenanigans reported him to the police and is expected to appear before Zaka Magistrate’s Court on March 10.
