👆 SASTRA FOUNDATIONS Science Technology & Innovation Mission Dear Sir/Madam, We are excited to inform you that the Science Technology Innovation Mission (STIM) of SASTRA is organizing an online quiz and webinar to celebrate National Science Day and the Foundation Day of STIM of SASTRA. Click on the link below to register for both events. https://forms.gle/jymxvSzMKW5nMA3FA *Online Quiz* To generate scientific awareness and interest towards scientific robustness and technological brilliance, SASTRA is conducting an online quiz as a promotional event. _Date: 28th February 2025 Time 8.00 PM – 9.00 PM _ The details will be emailed to the registered participants *Webinar* We are also glad to invite interested students, faculty, and others to take part in the online seminar on “Quests & Conquests: Gravitational Wave Science” presented by Prof. Tarun Souradeep, Director & Professor, Raman Research Institute. _Date: 5th March 2025 , Time: 11.00 AM Venue: Online (Google meet)_ *Abstract* Scientific quests, especially grand ones, have always pushed the boundaries of scientific & technological capability that has eventually impacted our daily lives. Deeper recognition of this aspect of fundamental science would lead to its broader acceptance in any society and its nation. The talk offers but a glimpse of this; primarily through quests that the speaker has been personally involved from India. The tmalk highlights technology that enabled the recent discovery of gravitational waves from astrophysical bodies with LIGO, or that required for the ongoing quest to discover primeval gravitational waves from the birth of our Universe. *About the speaker* Professor Tarun Souradeep is the Director, Raman Research Institute since January 2022. Before coming to RRI, he was a professor and the Chair of the Physics Department at IISER, Pune. Prof. Souradeep’s area of expertise is Cosmology and Gravitational Wave Physics and Astronomy, areas in which he has made important contributions and succeeded in creating a strong, sustained Indian effort addressing issues at par with international research. The impact of the Indian team led by him is widely recognized, both in the field of cosmology with frontline Cosmic Microwave Background experiments (CMB), and the emergent field of gravitational wave (GW) astronomy. He is the spokesperson (Science) for LIGO-India and Member Secretary of LIGO - India Scientific Management Board. You are also welcome to spread the news among school students, teachers for their benefit. Hope to meet you for the event.
