It is of Paramount importance for a medium to fulfill rite of Chenhura Makwara. Chenura Makwara is total cleansing of the Medium for purity of the Spirit that resides in Spirit Medium. There are unclean spirits which follows the choosen Medium to oppose and disturb the calling of the Medium. Unclean spirits such as Avenging spirits (ngozi),Unclean Ancestors who were wizards, witchs,prostitutes and murderers mostly comes to disturb the handling of Spiritual duties by the Spirit Medium. These unclean Spirits cause sickness, adultery,bad luck to the Medium therefore in Zimbabwean Spirituality the Medium should be cleansed for purity. Due to diversified culture in different family, clans and territories the rite of Chenura Makwara differs. The Ancestoral spirit sent from mystical after life world called Nyikadzimu in Shona Culture, choose another Medium of it's Friend in Spirit world to lead the process of Chenura Makwara rite. And the process differs from family to family due to Cultural diversity in Zimbabwe. In Chenura Makwara rite the Medium is cleansed from evil spirits, Nyora, Rushambwa and Hudyiswa by different items to be mentioned below : -Traditional snuff popular known in vernacular languages as Bute or Mafembo. -Traditional herbs such as Mutanda,ngozi,chifumuro etc. -Traditional Crops such as zviyo. -Milk which is mainly used by Manes Spirits In other Culture when a Medium is cleansed by above mentioned items the family of the Medium brought white cloth (Mucheka weChenura Makwara) for the cleansed Medium and traditional beer(Doro Rekunze Kwemusha) is brewed outside the home of the Medium to strengthen the Spirit of the family which dwell in choosen Medium. There fore the Spirit will be pure and strong to fight unclean spirits which torments the family. When the Medium becomes pure in Spirit, the Spirit of the family or clan will protect it's clan or family itself .
