NetOne Cellular is expanding its nationwide roadshow campaign, bringing digital connectivity services directly to communities. The operator today hosted events in Gokwe Centre and Gwanda, targeting areas like Bomba Business Centre, Gwanda CBD, Mbembesi, Phakama, and West Nicholson. The roadshows, branded Munhu Wese KuNetOne, offers SIM replacements, OneMoney registrations, new SIM cards, and eSIMs while engaging attendees with entertainment and giveaways.
Zimbabwe is hosting the SADC Cluster meeting of Ministers responsible for ICT, Information, Transport, and Meteorology to review policy and regulatory frameworks for regional digital transformation. ICT Permanent Secretary Dr. Beullah Chirume said the agenda includes expanding broadband infrastructure to marginalized areas to benefit youths and women, promoting inclusive socio-economic development across the SADC region.
POTRAZ in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will host the third Machine Learning for 5G mentoring session tomorrow. The virtual workshop will explore AI and machine learning applications in telecommunications, featuring success stories from Zimbabwean teams that excelled at the ITU Hackathon. Experts will provide insights into ITU initiatives, mentorship programs, funding opportunities, and a roadmap for AI for Good 2025.
South Africa’s Competition Commission has proposed that Google compensate local news media up to $27 million annually to address competitive imbalances in digital advertising revenue. The provisional remedy aims to correct the overrepresentation of global news outlets in search results and social media feeds, which has disadvantaged local media, while recommending algorithmic adjustments to promote local content and enhance monetization opportunities for news organizations.
