This study examines the challenges facing the consent principle under Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) for health data privacy amid the rise of big data. Big data in healthcare enhances decision-making and service delivery but raises concerns about the adequacy of PDPA’s consent requirements. Using a doctrinal qualitative approach, this article finds that Malaysia’s consent standards lack clarity and suitability for big data contexts.
