Raila Issues Demand to Ruto After Second Meeting With Kenyans
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga continued his consultative tour in Migori County, Nyanza Region, engaging with youth leaders, elders, business representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss pressing issues affecting Kenyans. A primary concern raised was the government's Social Health Authority (SHA) program, introduced by President William Ruto's administration the previous year. Odinga highlighted that the SHA's implementation challenges have left thousands of Kenyans without access to essential medical services. He urged the government to promptly address these issues by reviewing and rectifying system flaws to ensure seamless healthcare access for all citizens.
Odinga also expressed his willingness to formalize a broad-based government with President Ruto, contingent upon the administration's commitment to resolving the grievances voiced by Kenyans. He emphasized that he would present these concerns to the President after concluding his nationwide consultative tour. This tour follows a recent meeting between Odinga and President Ruto at State House in Mombasa, where they discussed various national issues. During that meeting, Odinga thanked Ruto for supporting his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.
These developments come in the wake of Odinga's unsuccessful campaign for the AUC Chairperson role, after which both leaders agreed to focus on domestic matters affecting the nation.
Odinga's current efforts reflect his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Kenyans and his readiness to collaborate with the government, provided that citizens' concerns are adequately addressed.
