When taking an iron supplement to treat iron deficiency anemia, it's best to take it *one hour before a meal or two hours after eating.* This is because iron is best absorbed in an acidic environment. Examples of iron supplements are ferrous sulphate, fesolate, Floradix, Nature Made e.t.c. Taking it with vitamin C (like orange juice) can further enhance absorption, while dairy, tea, and coffee can reduce its effectiveness.
