“However, _Madd-o-Jazar-e-Islam_, whilst being a historical work, and a piece of poetry, has just been a "poetic scroll of moral maxims". In today's era, people who keep their eyes on contemporary literature and society, and who are undoubtedly, the people of opinion (sāhib-i-rāy); they praise _Madd-o-Jazar-e-Islam_ by saying that, even after a century, this poem corresponds to the downtrodden state of Muslims. So, doesn't it mean that, Hālī, according to his _muqaddama_, failed in taking the work from poetry, he wanted to take and the social condition of Muslims is at the same place, where it was before the writing of _Madd-o-Jazar-e-Islam_”. — Aslam Parvez, in "Sir Syed se Akbar tak" (my rough translation attempt from July 2020. A refined translation could've been better but old is gold.)
