Half of the 10 Canadian cities “most exposed” to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on aluminum and steel imports — and tariffs currently paused on all Canadian goods — are located in Ontario, according to a report by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Saint John, N.B., and Calgary, Alta., would be the top two hardest hit cities followed by Windsor, Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, Brantford and Guelph. Steeltown Hamilton is eighth on the chamber’s U.S. Tariff Exposure Index.
“President Trump’s proposed tariffs will have significant consequences for the global economy — but for some of Canada’s cities, the threat is far more local and personal,” said Stephen Tapp, the chamber’s chief economist. https://www.thestar.com/business/five-of-the-top-ten-cities-impacted-by-trumps-new-tariffs-are-in-ontario-new/article_bfa59aa4-e890-11ef-8fd2-83e86e9ef275.html
