Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey, who signed a historic hydro development deal with Quebec and became a vocal critic of Donald Trump, is stepping down, saying he doesn’t have the stomach for another term in the face of the all-consuming job it is to face the “maniac” U.S. president’s threats. Furey, 49, an orthopedic trauma surgeon who became provincial Liberal leader five years ago, said he “loves politics” but reached the decision with his physician wife Allison “around Valentine’s Day,” saying the job has been a 24/7 preoccupation and was taking too much a toll on their family life. He did not rule out one day returning to elected office, but said with the “erratic” Trump in office, the next four years were going to be too tough for him to continue working at the same pace. https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/this-guys-a-maniac-nl-premier-andrew-furey-steps-down-citing-challenge-of-dealing-with/article_d215dec2-f3a0-11ef-bf57-773bde92c23d.html
