*Defending a Comrade in favour of unity over division*
_Story by Maxwell Haitengeswinyika Teedzai_
I am compelled to speak out in defense of my colleague, Cde Tendayi Zinyama, Sunga Jombo, whom some of us attacked and labeled a "sellout" due to his past tweets on x.com. This is not just an attack on him, but a misguided attempt to undermine the core principles of unity that should guide us as a Party and as a Nation.
It’s important to understand that politics is not static. It’s not about one individual remaining fixed in opposition forever. Politics is like football – today’s opponent may very well be tomorrow’s ally. In 1987, we witnessed one of the most significant moments in our history when the late President Robert Mugabe made peace with Dr Joshua Nkomo, unifying once hostile factions. That moment of reconciliation was a step forward in building a stronger, united GRZ - Great Republic of Zimbabwe.
The purpose of politics is not to tear each other down, but to build. Our aim should always be to heal, reconcile, and work toward a future where all Zimbabweans, regardless of their past, can come together for the common good of our country. The idea of breaking people down based on their past political orientation is counterproductive and harmful to the unity we all strive for.
We must not forget that our history is what shapes us. Just like anyone else, Cde Tendayi Zinyama has a past, but that past does not define his present or his future. It is, in fact, the lessons learned from the past that guide our actions today. He, like all of us, is committed to moving forward and contributing to the development of the Great Republic of Zimbabwe.
It is important to remember that the unity we strive for is essential for our success. The rhetoric of division and condemnation only weakens us and drives wedges between comrades who should be standing together. We must not allow ourselves to become distracted by past differences or petty disagreements. Unity is key, and that is what will ensure the success of our Party, our Government, and our country.
The recent message from HE President Dr ED Mnangagwa during Unity Day should be a reminder to all of us that it is unity that will propel us forward. Let’s not sow division within our ranks or undermine the progress we have made. Let’s focus on what truly matters: the future of the GRZ - Great Republic of Zimbabwe, the well-being of our people, and the success of our National development agenda.
We all have a role to play in this journey. We should support each other, uplift each other, and work together for a brighter future. It’s time to put aside the divisive rhetoric and focus on what unites us, not what divides us.
In the end, we are all on the same team. Let’s work together to build a Zimbabwe that future generations will be proud of.
