Cde Chigudu’s contributions to our Province in particular and the entire Nation as a whole and his unwavering dedication to the ZANU PF Party have left an indelible mark. “We stand united in mourning his loss and honoring his legacy,” he emphasized. Cde Chigudu was a Veteran of our Liberation struggle, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, a former Governor of Manicaland Province, and the former ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial Chairperson. He was among the brave combatants sent for training in North Korea under the ZPRA — Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army, the military wing of ZAPU—Zimbabwe African People’s Union. He served as an IO—Intelligence Operative in colonial Salisbury, now Independent Harare, where he gathered crucial information that significantly aided guerilla operations and recruitment efforts. After being captured and imprisoned for twelve years by the oppressive Rhodesian regime, Cde Chigudu remained steadfast in his commitment to the Liberation struggle. Upon his release, he crossed into the Great Republic of Zambia to reunite with fellow Comrades and continue the fight for freedom. Recognized as a principled Cadre, Cde Chigudu served the ZANU PF Party and the Government with unwavering loyalty and dedication. His wisdom and experience provided invaluable counsel in guiding both Party and Government affairs. In recognition of his immense contributions, the ZANU PF Politburo Chaired by its First Secretary President Mnangagwa has agreed to honor Cde Chigudu with the esteemed status of National Hero.
