Overthinking is not just a bad habit as it is seen, rather it’s a full-time enemy of your mental health and physical wellbeing. When you overthink, you may assume that you are just processing things but what you’re actually doing is stressing your body out unnecessarily. Come with me, let's break it down👇 WAYS THAT OVERTHINKING AFFECTS YOUR HEALTH 1• It Can Mess Up Your Mental Health & Sleep Pattern Your brain wasn’t wiresd to run consistently and efficiently for 24hrs. It needs a break to chill a bit. When you indulge in overthinking, you overstimulate your mind, making it difficult to relax and sleep well. Instead of taking a rest, your brain would be busy playing “what if” scenarios all night. What is the end result? The next day, you become challenged with fatigue, brain fog, and a cranky moo, which affects your productivity. 2• It Can Cause Mental Illness Overthinking everything increases your risk of anxiety disorders and depression. 🚨 *Watch video via health Lab to know what is depression, Open here* 👉https://healthlab.rw/courses/know-more-about-depression/ You end up having your brain stuck in a loop of worst-case scenarios, and before you realise it, your mind starts believing that they are real. 3• You Can’t Focus on Anything Else Overthinking has a way of hijacking your attention span. You’re trying to complete a task, but instead of focusing, your brain is busy analyzing past conversations, future issues, and even creating imaginary problems. When you finally evaluate your performance, it appears like you’re always behind on task. This feeling alone can make the situation worse. 4• It Can Weaken Your Immune System When you stress too much, your body sees the stress as a threat and goes into fight-or-flight mode. On of those stresses is overthinking. If after a while, that stress doesn’t go away, your immune system takes a hit. The more you overthink, the more vulnerable you become to illnesses. 5• It Can Spoil Your Appetite Have you ever noticed how stress either makes you overeat or completely lose your appetite? That’s simply because overthinking disrupts the hormones that regulate hunger. Some people stress-eat their way into weight gain, while others lose weight unintentionally. Neither of them is good. 6• It Can Increase Your Risk of Heart Disease When you overthink, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol, which can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Over time, this can lead to hypertension, other heart diseases, and an increased risk of strokes. 7• It Can Worsen Skin Issues Like Acne & Stretch Marks Overthinking is equal to more stress which will lead to higher cortisol levels. This hormonal chaos can make your skin extra sensitive, leading to acne breakouts, increased oil production, and even worsening stretch marks (especially on the abdomen and thighs). Your skin doesn’t like stress, so you need to chill and give yourself a break from all those thinking WHAT IS THE WAY OUT? -Set a time limit to think about things. Give yourself 5–15 minutes to think things through, then move on once the time lapses. -Practice mindfulness. Focus on now not the past or the future. -Write it down. More like dumping your thoughts on paper and let your brain breathe. Later you can look at them -Engage in stress-reducing activities. Exercise, listen to music, or just take deep breaths. -Stop stressing over things you cannot control. Life will go on whether you stress or not. Overthinking won’t solve your problems, but it will definitely create new problem. Let that sink in and keep it right in your mind. Did you learn from this post? Learning Never Ends🫶
