Historically, the ANC had assured the community that they would be relocated, but this plan was deemed unlawful and individual residents were given the choice to relocate or remain. The court's ruling emphasized the need for basic services, including water, electricity, and street infrastructure, as well as development. However, the ANC's stance on development in Protea South remains unclear, with some leaders discouraging it without providing alternative plans.
