Oat milk isn’t milk ! Oatly lost the right to call its drink “milk” in a UK ruling. Why? Because it’s not milk. Milk comes from mammary glands. Not only are fake milks like Oatly and other nut milks not milk, they aren’t healthy either. They are refined seeds oils, and sweeteners. Literally, the definition of junk food. Further, fake milks often have other troublesome ingredients. They can be high in oxalates (i.e. almond milk) that can lead to problems like kidney stones and high in phytic acid that inhibit nutrient absorption. Soy “milk” contains everything from enzyme inhibitors to phytoestrogens. These products often use carrageenan as a thickening agent which is inflammatory and can damage the gut (see work of Dr. Joanne Tobacman). Real milk (preferably whole, raw / unpasteurized, non-homogenized, A2) is a fantastic source of nutrition like fat-soluble vitamins K2 and D, complete proteins, bioavailable minerals like calcium, and healthy fats and cholesterol. Real milk isn’t for everyone. But nut milk is for no one. If you’re going to drink milk, drink milk.
