26/02/2025, 𝓼𝓮𝓪𝓯𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓻'𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮 Merchant Navy Job Scam: Agent Dupes Aspirants of Rs 25 Lakh, Arrested in Chennai – In a major breakthrough, the Tambaram city police arrested a 44-year-old man, Hariharan, for allegedly duping job aspirants of Rs 25 lakh by promising positions on merchant ships. Hariharan, a resident of Kundrathur, had been running a job consultancy near the Tambaram Tahsildar office since 2023, targeting those seeking employment in the Merchant Navy. Hariharan is reported to have lured his victims through social media advertisements and flyers, claiming he could secure various positions onboard merchant ships. He collected substantial sums from multiple individuals, but failed to deliver on his promises, repeatedly avoiding their requests for job placements. The scam came to light when one of the victims, Manikandan (36), approached the police in December 2024 after months of being deceived. Following Manikandan's complaint, six more victims reported similar fraudulent experiences.
